Left Lane is transforming Pittsburgh’s Gulf Tower into Hotel Bardo, featuring luxury accommodations and amenities, enhancing the city’s upscale travel offerings by summer 2026.
Renowned for transforming historic buildings into cultural hubs, real estate development, brand and design powerhouse, Left Lane, is bringing the Bardo brand to Pittsburgh. Specialising in boutique hospitality, the firm will convert the existing 40-story Gulf Tower – an Art Deco architectural icon in the heart of downtown, into a mixed-use urban development. Hotel Bardo Pittsburgh is scheduled to open in the summer of 2026, offering 130 guestrooms and suites, 220 residences, three restaurant and bar concepts and 10,000 sq ft of leisure spaces, including a kids club and golf simulator. With thoughtful “modest deco” interiors throughout, the hotel will be designed to celebrate the building’s original architectural details.
The news swiftly follows Pittsburgh’s Governor Josh Shapiro‘s latest announcement to invest $600 million in revitalising Downtown Pittsburgh. The 10-year development will include the conversion of Downtown buildings from offices to residential addresses and the creation of new public spaces with room for festivals, families, public art and green space.
Hotel Bardo Pittsburgh will join existing premium hotels, including The Oaklander, Omni William Penn Hotel and The Fairmont, to bolster the city’s luxury accommodation offerings. In addition to 5-star hotels, Pittsburgh offers visitors a wealth of fine-dining experiences, from the top of Mount Washington with premium menus and views to match at Monterey Bay Fish Grotto, Altius and Le Mont – many of whom offer chef’s table experiences, to farm-to-table options across the city, such as Spork, Hyeholde, Scratch & Co., Fig & Ash and more.
Downtown visitors can enjoy a host of experiences in the Cultural District, including VIP performances by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at the grand Heinz Hall or private museum and art gallery tours at world-class art institutions such as The Andy Warhol Museum and The Carnegie Museum of Art. Just an hour outside of the city in the expansive Laurel Highlands, luxury wellness experiences await at the newly renovated Nemacolin Resort & Spa. From here, keen golfers can play one of two championship courses and visit one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most captivating properties, Fallingwater.
Jerad Bachar, CEO at VisitPITTSBURGH, commented: “We are thrilled to welcome The Bardo brand to Pittsburgh’s thriving hospitality scene. This exciting addition underscores the city’s evolution as a premier destination for luxury travel. Pittsburgh is well known for its rich history and vibrant cultural scene and now our portfolio of premium offerings—from iconic accommodations and world-class museums and theatres, to renowned dining spots. The opening of Hotel Bardo Pittsburgh further elevates our city’s evolving reputation as a place where modern sophistication meets authentic charm.”
The original executive floor of Gulf Oil (Level 31) will be reimagined to create Club Bardo; for large gatherings and programmes designed to appeal to affluent locals. The firm’s wellness brand, Saltgrass, will offer holistic spa services, personal training, and group fitness for members and guests.
