Booking.com and Apartment Therapy help rental owners make their properties a top pick for travelers

The global leader in online accommodation bookings and the leading source for home design provide advice for rental owners looking to spruce up their space.

NEW YORK – Summer is quickly approaching and Booking.com, the global leader in connecting travelers with the widest choice of incredible places to stay, and Apartment Therapy, the leading source for home design inspiration and advice, have teamed up to provide rental owners with advice to redecorate their space for maximum impact with upcoming guests.

62% of Apartment Therapy readers stated they have stayed in a vacation rental instead of a hotel. These travelers felt that they were able to get a better feeling for the town or city they were staying in (49%) and also received a higher level of privacy (48%). To help property owners ensure that guests continue to get the most out of their stay, Booking.com has developed a step-by-step video with simple, affordable solutions to make their guests feel right at home.

“With the largest choice of homes, apartments and other unique places to stay globally, we know just how important the experience at their accommodation can be for travelers, no matter what type of trip they’re on. We teamed up with Apartment Therapy to share insights and find out more about what their readers are looking for when selecting their ideal place to stay,” says Todd Dunlap, Managing Director of the Americas at Booking.com. “Based on the findings, we put together our top recommendations for simple home design solutions for property owners.”

Whether that be placing a vase of fresh cut flowers on the dining room table or cozifying the living room with a solid textured throw and printed pillows, guests take notice of even the smallest of details. Which tips rise to the top of our list?

  • Leave a handwritten welcome note alongside a list of must-see attractions in the area.
  • Make it inviting but not too personal. Remove all personal photos of family members and pets and swap them for some artistic shots.
  • Provide fresh towels and linens vs. having the guest bring their own.
  • Leave a bottle of local wine for guests to celebrate the start of their stay.

“We are excited to see the before and after photos our readers post, incorporating the design tips Booking.com provided,” says Maxwell Ryan of Apartment Therapy. “Our site serves to provide inspiration to readers everywhere and this partnership allowed us to do that.”
