Carmel Boutique Inns expands holdings, acquires two new inns in Carmel-by-the-Sea

Specializing in boutique inns with an authentic sense of place, Carmel Boutique Inns now offers a diverse array of hospitality options from the iconic 1929 Cypress Inn to the classic cottages at Forest Lodge totaling 91 guestrooms and suites along the Pacific.

CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, CALIF. – Carmel Boutique Inns (CBI) owner Denny LeVett announced the acquisition of two additional hotel properties in Carmel-by-the-Sea, for a total of six distinct inns under the company’s portfolio. Effective July 31, 2015, the newest holding include Monte Verde Inn and Casa de Carmel, both located just four blocks from Carmel Beach. Specializing in boutique inns with an authentic sense of place, Carmel Boutique Inns now offers a diverse array of hospitality options from the iconic 1929 Cypress Inn to the classic cottages at Forest Lodge totaling 91 guestrooms and suites along the Pacific. Crystal Petersson, general manager of Cypress Inn, will function as general manager of the two new properties as well.

Set for a soft renovation this winter, the 10-room Monte Verde Inn is located at Ocean and Seventh avenues featuring a Spanish-Mediterranean exterior set in white adobe with timber trim. Guestrooms include a mix of full kitchens, skylights, marble bathrooms and balconies with select ocean views; new hardwood floors, updated fixtures and furnishings will round out the renovation. Just adjacent, the streamlined Casa de Carmel – which will be rebranded under the Monte Verde Inn – sports seven guest accommodations with polished hardwood floors, premium bedding, select claw foot bathtubs and ocean views.

“We’re pleased to add these two properties back into the Carmel Boutique Inn’s Portfolio,” says LeVett, who previously owned both properties up until 2008. “This addition enables us to offer a diverse line-up of traveler options while keeping them within the family umbrella.”

Located 26 miles north of Big Sur between legendary Pebble Beach and Point Lobos State Nature Reserve, Carmel Boutique Inns puts travelers front and center for a quintessential California escape along scenic Highway 1. The flagship property, the Cypress Inn co-owned with actress Doris Day, offers a seamless mix of Hollywood glam and is a pioneer in pet-friendly travel. Its ornate entrance, 44 guestrooms with contemporary interiors and popular Yappy Hour are ideal for couples seeking a bit of romance with Rover in tow. Opened in 1912, the 11-room Lamplighter Inn is set in an ancient tree grove with gardens, gazebos and alfresco fire pit. Ideal for families with a focus on beach activities, the clapboard-style cottages offer bonfire kits and a lively happy hour by the sea. Closer in town, the Forest Lodge features a cluster of seven classic stand-alone cottages with within a natural forest grove. Tucked on a residential street, the Vagabond’s House Inn is an English Tudor-style country inn and favorite among the European market with a kitschy mix of vintage interiors and select full kitchens. All properties feature daily Continental breakfast and are pet friendly.
