The new-look Athenaeum Spa at Corinthia Palace on the island of Malta is set to open in April.

The Athenaeum Spa at this legendary hotel is a Mediterranean-inspired oasis with a bespoke approach to wellbeing, which has been carefully curated to provide an unparalleled holistic health experience, drawing on both global and local expertise, alongside a highly personalized service tailored to each guest’s needs.

Created by world-renowned interior designers Goddard Littlefair and inspired by the relaxed charm of the Mediterranean, its design evokes a sense of calm and serenity. Spread over two floors and covering 2,000 square meters (21,000 square feet), the Athenaeum Spa is located in the heart of the Mediterranean island of Malta.

The dedicated team at the Athenaeum Spa understand that wellness is deeply personal, which is why guests are encouraged to book ‘time’ rather than a set treatment, enabling tailor-made experiences to be created shaped around each individual guest’s wellbeing goal.

Susanne Fisch, Spa Director at Corinthia Palace says: “Everything at the Athenaeum Spa centers around time – your time. We understand that creating a sense of true wellness is deeply personal, which is why we have crafted a system that no longer limits guests to one treatment, but instead enables them to reserve time and to enjoy a deeply personalized, tailor-made experience created for them in that time. This is a first for Malta and we believe it will help to set the tone across the rest of the facilities here at the spa.”

A genuinely bespoke approach underpins everything that will be provided at the Athenaeum Spa. The Signature Treatments, too, will be completely unique. Exclusive Signature Treatments have been developed which harness the best local, all-natural ingredients evocative of the rich healing traditions of the Maltese island and its cultural heritage.

The Athenaeum Spa is also the first and only spa in Malta to offer world-renowned ESPA products, treatments, and expertise. In partnership with leading skincare brand ESPA, the treatments will be guided by a holistic philosophy to enhance both physical and emotional wellbeing.

Daniel Golby, General Manager of ESPA says: “We are delighted to partner with Corinthia Palace Malta on the re-launch of their beautiful Athenaeum Spa, and to bring ESPA products and our truly holistic spa experiences to Malta. The treatment offering has been carefully crafted with a wellbeing focus to ensure a bespoke experience, tailored individually to the needs of each guest.”

Elsewhere, the spas nail lounge, featuring Jessica products, offers pedicures and manicures with a difference. Nail treatments include signature gin or non-alcoholic cocktails to be enjoyed during treatments. Created by the hotel’s Bar Manager, Mladan Nakev, the sugar and alcohol content of each cocktail has been carefully calculated to ensure wellness is not hampered.

Facilities at the Athenaeum Spa will include seven treatment rooms (including a couple’s suite), a post-treatment Serenity Lounge and a beautiful terrace overlooking the hotel gardens. Meanwhile, the Vitality Lounge provides a seamless indoor and outdoor experience, offering guests a sauna, steam room, experience showers and a relaxation deck with heated loungers. It is a welcoming and serene space where guests are invited to relax and linger.

The Athenaeum Spa’s unique attributes bring an entirely new dimension to Malta’s luxury spa scene. With its carefully crafted treatments, thermal experiences and authentic design, it is a truly confident, exquisite and elegant oasis.

Since opening over 50 years ago, the Corinthia Palace has become a quintessential part of Malta. Located next to the beautiful San Anton Palace, the 147-room hotel is set in tranquil gardens. The Athenaeum Spa is the jewel in the crown of the final phase of a significant a 9 million euros refurbishment of the property, which began in 2018, the hotel’s 50th anniversary year, and has so far transformed the executive lounge, lobby, and guest bedrooms. The hotel’s Orange Grove restaurant, named after the citrus orchards of the historic three villages within which the hotel is found, will also be transformed this year.
