Cornerstone Design hosts Residence Inn Scottsdale Salt River virtual hotel tour

Cornerstone Design was tasked by ownership, Salt River Devco, to enhance the Salt River Pima – Maricopa Indian Community’s assets with the ground-up development hotel.

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. – Officials of Cornerstone Design, an award-winning interior design firm focused on the hospitality, commercial, high-end residential, multi-family and mixed-use markets, hosted a one-of-its kind virtual hotel tour of the 111-room Residence Inn Scottsdale Salt River.

“As everyone continues to chart ‘the new normal,’ we decided it was important to share some of the unique aspects of the first Residence Inn -branded hotel built on U.S. tribal lands in a safe and secure way for interested parties,” said Suzie Hall, president and principal designer, Cornerstone Design. “We wanted everyone from members of the local community to potential guests to fellow owners and operators to experience what sets this hotel apart from the ‘standard’ Residence Inn product.  It was important to us, however, that we did so in a way that respects the very real concerns people have of the ongoing pandemic.”

Cornerstone Design was tasked by ownership, Salt River Devco, to enhance the Salt River Pima – Maricopa Indian Community’s assets with the ground-up development hotel. The Residence Inn features many custom design elements and FFE throughout the property, including a custom “bird” ceiling treatment that mirrors a similar installation in the owner’s sister Courtyard by Marriott hotel next door. A river motif was designed as a symbol of the Salt River, flowing between the two hotels. A dynamic, geometric wallcovering adds just the right touch throughout the guestroom corridors.

The overarching goals of the project were to demonstrate respect toward and incorporate the influences of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and to highlight the relationship to the adjacent Courtyard hotel. The theme of “Community” was holistically integrated into the project using artwork from a local photographer showcasing the native land. Murals that highlight the cultural importance of water and earth elements were incorporated throughout the design. Many different product sources were utilized in this project, demonstrating the strength of the design community.

“The design of the Residence Inn Scottsdale Salt River Hotel is a testament to Cornerstone’s desire to honor the history and traditions of the local, native community,” Hall added. “Utilizing indigenous art and photos of reservation land, the hotel truly was able to create a one-of-it-kind hotel experience that both met brand requirements and provided the opportunity to showcase Salt River Devco’s diverse background in a way that is both inviting to the local Community and relaxing for guests.”

“Suzie and her team went the extra mile to get to know us as individuals to better inform her design proposals from the beginning, and the final results speak for themselves,” said Alix Silver, acting CEO, Salt River Devco. “This Residence Inn is a hotel that will instill pride in the community, as well as entice business and leisure travelers who want something beyond the ‘standard’ brand experience.”
