Design Hotels presents extraordinary hotel bathrooms

It’s not often we get the time to treat ourselves, so bathing is the perfect opportunity to indulge in some ‘me’ time! Design Hotels presents hotels with bathrooms that go far beyond catering to our basic needs and offer a well-designed place to relax, replenish and play. Outfitted with everything from showers featuring optional mood lighting to sinks made of polyester, these bathrooms put the fun back into bathing! In Singapore the spacious and contemporary Klapsons, The Boutique Hotel offers Executive Rooms with transparent walk-in showers in the center of the room. In Auckland, Hotel DeBrett’s art deco inspired bathrooms combine modern luxury with 1920s glamour. The recently-opened New Hotel in Athens features bathrooms from the famous brothers and designers Fernando and Humberto Campana. Known for their designs with recycled materials they have created striking bathroom interiors using structural elements from the former Olympic Palace Hotel.

Klapsons, The Boutique Hotel, Singapore
This 17-room hotel, located in the city’s Central Business District, offers a quietly sophisticated retreat. Functionality, innovation and timelessness are the three philosophies that inform the hotel’s design ethic. William Sawaya of Sawaya & Moroni have spearheaded the design team and given each guestroom at Klapsons an individualized design identity so that no two are alike. The Executive Rooms feature quirky shower designs, including a transparent snail-shaped walk-in shower in the middle of the room and an open shower flanked by two floor-to-ceiling mirrors with mood lighting and a radio. The Cosmo Room also has a wooden-framed shower in a private patio area, so guests can choose to bathe indoors or outdoors. All bathrooms come with deluxe Molton Brown toiletries to complete the luxury bathing experience.

Hotel DeBrett, Auckland
This charming hotel, in the middle of Auckland’s hip fashion district, offers large luxurious bathrooms with deep baths, velvet bathrobes and art deco design features. Featuring black round mosaic tiles that resemble honeycomb mosaics, the walls pays homage to the original bathrooms in this 1920’s building, while the polished black granite floors with underfloor heating give a modern touch. As well as having separate bathtubs there are two shower heads offering different bathing experiences and magnifying mirrors. In support of small New Zealand brands, the hotel uses Eithne Curran toiletries, unique to this hotel and made with sustainable natural ingredients.

New Hotel, Athens
Open since July 1, New Hotel is designed by the Brazilian Campana brothers, known for creating pieces of art from cast offs and spares. The owner, Greek Cypriot art collector Dakis Joannou, has created a hotel that affects all the senses through its use of objects, structures, and materials from the former Olympic Palace Hotel. With strong interior design concepts inspired by Greek mythology its 79 rooms and suites offer luxurious bath amenities and innovative room layouts. For instance, in some the sink is located outside the shower room, and unusual materials are used throughout, including sinks made from golden polyester and solid brass and a floor made from solid bamboo. All bathrooms are also stocked with Kiehl’s or Clarins toiletries.
