Radisson SAS  Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement with the DIFA, Deutsche Immobilien Fonds AG in Hamburg, to manage  the new hotel of the future complex “DomAquarée” in Berlin. In 1994, the Estate Fund, wholly owned by the German Volksbanken und Raiffeisenbanken, bought the former Radisson SAS hotel, beautifully located in the city centre. The future first class full service hotel will have 429 rooms and be an integer part of the highly modern “DomAquarée”, named after the famous existing Dom, situated right in front of the site, and after the water, which will play an important role in the architecture of the building.

Since November 30th, the doors of the Radisson SAS hotel Berlin are closed and the property will soon be torn down. Within the first week of January, the construction of the new development has started alongside the river Spree. The official “Start Building Ceremony” is set for January 15th. The new complex, with the new Radisson SAS hotel, office space, retail, housing and the aquarium, is due to be completed by autumn 2003.

Jorgen Ehrlich, board member of DIFA, comments: “When we first bought the Radisson SAS hotel six years ago, we wanted to ideally use this prominent area close to the cathedral, the Alexanderplatz and the Museum and decided to furthermore expand this strategic site”. Wolfgang Wagner, Regional Director of Radisson SAS in Germany, adds: “Our activities in Berlin are based on the assumption that this city will become one of the top destination in Europe”.
