Groundbreaking held following contract award to Larsen & Toubro.

The Mandarin Oriental, Muscat – Oman’s most anticipated new luxury destination – took a major step forward as main construction works officially commenced on site.

Senior executives from Eagle Hills Muscat, a partnership between Eagle Hills Abu Dhabi and Izz International, broke ground on the flagship project, which will bring one of the world’s most luxurious hotels and the first ever branded residences to Oman.

The high-level event was held in the presence of His Highness Sayyid Mohammed bin Asaad Al Said, Mohammed Abdul Hameed Al Busaidi, CEO of Izz International; Salman Sajid, Chief Financial Officer of Eagle Hills; Osama Sabboubeh, Chief Project Delivery Officer Development & Projects of Eagle Hills; and G R Ranganath, Chief Executive of L&T Oman, along with other senior executives.

The Mandarin Oriental, Muscat is the company’s pioneering project in the Sultanate. Comprising two major waterfront developments – The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Muscat and The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, Muscat – it is expected to play a major role in boosting the country’s tourism and property sectors and contribute to long-term economic growth.

Low Ping, CEO of Eagle Hills, said: “The Mandarin Oriental, Muscat will introduce an entirely new concept of luxury living to Oman. With exquisite interiors, unparalleled sea views and iconic opulence, this new development is set to become a waterfront sanctuary right in the heart of the dynamic Muscat city. This is a very exciting day for us, as we celebrate this significant milestone in our journey to redefine authentic luxury and promote the concept of integrated hospitality and residential development in Oman and across Eagle Hills’ global portfolio.”

Mohammed Al Busaidi, CEO of Izz International, noted: “We are committed to delivering progress and the highest quality of property developments in the sultanate, in line with the country’s economic growth strategies.  We are therefore very proud to be part of this major development that will deliver a world-class destination and play a key role in further strengthening the country’s tourism sector.”

Eagle Hills Muscat has recently awarded the main works contract for the project to Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Oman. L&T will carry out the overall construction on site, which includes a 150-key hotel, 156 branded residences, as well as 1,622 sq. m of retail.

G R Ranganath, Chief Executive, L&T Oman, commented: “L&T has built a solid reputation across the Middle East, and our appointment to deliver The Mandarin Oriental, Muscat is a reaffirmation of our credentials. This appointment presents us with a great opportunity to showcase our expertise in delivering world-class projects, and we look forward to bringing the vision for this unique development to reality.”

The Mandarin Oriental, Muscat, is located on the coast of the prestigious Shatti Al Qurum district. The Residences at Mandarin Oriental will represent Oman’s first luxury, branded beachfront residences, introducing unprecedented levels of sophistication and service. Residents will also benefit from the Mandarin Oriental Hotel amenities, including five dining venues and bars, signature spa, outdoor swimming pool, one-of-kind ballroom, and a variety of banquet and meeting spaces.
