The Play & Display project by FOUR-O-NINE studio achieved the first prize for its novel development of distribution which converts the bed into the principal element of the room, around which all of the activities a guest could do throughout their stay revolve.
BARCELONA – The FOUR-O-NINE studio from Shanghai, winner of the First Contest on Innovation and Design in Hotel Spaces Eurostars Hotel Lab, received its prize of 8,000 euros in a ceremony held in the Eurostars Grand Marina Hotel 5* GL which was attended by more than 70 personas.
The Play & Display project by FOUR-O-NINE studio achieved the first prize for its novel development of distribution which converts the bed into the principal element of the room, around which all of the activities a guest could do throughout their stay revolve. The panel of judges also awarded two honorable mentions of 1,500 euros to the Box of Choice project, from the Integrated Field studio in Bangkok and to the Square One project by the participants Magdalena Viegener, Santiago Pena and Agustin Llobera from Buenos Aires.
During his speech at the event, President of Grupo Hotusa, Amancio Lopez, highlighted the great participation of this first edition of the contest and emphasized "the importance of implementing projects in the hospitality sector to help to stimulate the attitude towards transformation, improvement, imagination, creativity, evolution and, ultimately, imagination”.
In the first edition, focused on the design of hotel rooms, the contest received a total of 135 projects coming from various countries like Spain, Italy, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Israel, Colombia, Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, Chile, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Greece, Germany, Switzerland, Romania and Poland.
New edition of Eurostars Hotel Lab
Eurostars Hotels launched a new edition of the Contest on Innovation and Design in Hotel Spaces, directed toward industrial designers, architects and interior designers who want to reinvent the hotel’s spaces and adapt them to the uses and necessities of the 21st century traveler. Specifically, this new edition of the contest invites participants to design and create the spaces and furnishings of the hotel lobby and reception area to meet the current and future needs of the hotel’s guests.
The participants of the new edition of Eurostars Hotel Lab must present a design of the different areas that make up a lobby and reception area, like a customer service area, a sitting area, a leisure area and a workspace. In addition, they may incorporate any available outside elements and redistribute the available space as needed.
The first prize of this new edition of the contest will be awarded with 8,000 euros and two honorable mentions will receive 1,500 euros each. A panel of expert judges from the world of design and interior decoration will select the three winning projects based on criteria of innovation, the use of new materials, functionality of the elements designed, and financial feasibility of applying the design to the chain’s hotels.
Anyone interested in participating must submit their proposal individually or in groups of up to three people, by 14 July 2017.
