Expedia Insiders’ Select 2013 Reveals World’s Top Rated Hotels

Taking the number one spot in this year’s Expedia Insiders’ Select is One&Only Palmilla Resort in Los Cabos, Mexico, followed by Arenas del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort near the Manuel Antonio National Park in Costa Rica. In third place is Marrol's Boutique Hotel in Bratislava.

BELLEVUE, WASH. – Expedia.com, revealed its renowned Expedia Insiders’ Select 2013 list, an annual ranking of the very best hotels on Expedia sites around the world. The rankings are predominantly determined by Expedia customers. The Limelight Hotel Aspen, of Denver Colo., led the 288 U.S. hotels that were included in the annual ranking, coming in at number 11 worldwide.

Taking the number one spot in this year’s Expedia Insiders’ Select is One&Only Palmilla Resort in Los Cabos, Mexico, followed by Arenas del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort near the Manuel Antonio National Park in Costa Rica. In third place is Marrol’s Boutique Hotel in Bratislava.

Hotels on the Insiders’ Select list are rated on a number of factors, the most important of which is the scores from more than one million verified Expedia customer reviews received during 2012. Just 650 hotels are selected from a pool of more than 205,000 properties available on Expedia-branded sites worldwide.

The exclusive Insiders’ Select list empowers travelers by helping them identify the hotels in their chosen destination that have been recognized by other travelers as delivering an excellent guest experience. Hotels that make the list benefit from additional marketing and exposure from Expedia and carry the distinction of being one of the best hotels available to the millions of consumers who visit Expedia sites every month to shop for and book travel.

“Travelers have an increasingly voracious appetite for online reviews and give them great consideration when making their purchasing decisions,” said Hari Nair, vice president market management North America. “Our research shows reviews drive increased demand as well as the ability to charge a higher price per room – and that’s a real benefit to hotels.”

This global ranking celebrates hotels all around the world, representing various accommodation types and star ratings. More than 70 countries and 450 cities are included in the 2013 rankings, making this a truly global recognition program.

Nair also noted the broad cross section of U.S. hotels included on the list.

“Expedia travelers recognize and comment on a great experience regardless of the star ranking,” said Nair. “There are just as many 2.5 star hotels on the list, as there are four and five star hotels, which speaks to Expedia’s broad customer appeal and the ability of travelers booking in all categories to appreciate a quality product. We’d expect a five star resort to make the list, but the simple fact that remote, suburban, economy hotels are included in the same ranking tells us these hoteliers deliver a level of service that is worthy of worldwide acclaim.”
