Fairmont St Andrews named Resort Hotel of the Year

The five-star Fairmont St Andrews added another accolade to its burgeoning reputation as it was named Resort Hotel of the Year at Golf Tourism Scotland’s Gold Standard awards. It is the second time the resort has won the award, having also received it in 2008, and comes hot on the heels of being declared Scotland’s best golf resort and spa by the World Travel Awards.

Fairmont St Andrews’ leisure sales executive, Angus Watson, was personally recognised as Young Industry Person of the Year, a category which also saw the resort’s front office agent, Gabi Liston, shortlisted, while the Torrance course was nominated in the Best Golf Course category.

The Golf Tourism Scotland Gold Standard awards recognise the very best exponents of golf in Scotland and are voted for by those who are most knowledgeable on the subject – the people working within the country’s golf tourism industry.

Jane Frazer
, Fairmont St Andrews’ director of sales and marketing, said: “To be named best resort hotel for the second time in three years is a real tribute to the facilities on offer at Fairmont St Andrews and the hard work put in to maintain our continuously high standards.

“The fact the awards are voted for by those within the Scottish golf travel industry makes it even more meaningful. Hopefully we can continue to excel and keep winning for years to come.

“I’m also delighted for Angus to be recognised for his hard work, he’s an important part of our team and everyone at the resort is very proud of his achievement.”

Watson, 24, said: “Golf is my passion so it is great to be able to work in an industry I can enjoy so much, particularly in Scotland which in my opinion boasts the best this great game has to offer.

“Working for a company such as Fairmont St Andrews has enabled me to develop my career and I look forward to continuing to promote the resort, St Andrews and Scotland.”

The five-star Fairmont St Andrews resort boasts two championship golf courses, the Torrance and Kittocks, and has played host to a number of prestigious events, including both the Open Championship’s final local qualifying and the Scottish Senior Open.

In addition to golf tournaments, Fairmont St Andrews has also hosted some of the world’s most important politicians and powerbrokers as a venue for both Northern Ireland peace talks and a G20 Summit.

A recent £17m redevelopment has benefited the entire resort, including the sumptuous spa complex which offers a range of treatments including locally-themed massages, facial and relaxation therapies and exclusive Kerstin Florian treatments in 12 chic treatment rooms.
