Joie de Vivre's Silicon Valley Properties turn green

Five Silicon Valley hotels awarded Green Business Certification

Joie de Vivre, California’s largest boutique hotel collection, announces its Silicon Valley properties have turned "green." The Domain Hotel and Wild Palms Hotel in Sunnyvale; Hotel Avante in Mountain View; The Moorpark Hotel in San Jose, and Hotel Los Gatos in Los Gatos have been certified as Green Businesses by Santa Clara County.

Joie de Vivre is working proactively toward green certification for all of its 30 properties through the "Joie de Vivre Green Dreams" environmental initiative, which is focused on preserving the environment by incorporating sustainability into the company’s core business practices. To date, eight Joie de Vivre hotels are green certified by their city or county authorities with two more expected by the end of 2008. The company recently launched a dedicated "Joie de Vivre Green Dreams" portal on its website that features the company’s green policies and practices; a green certification "scorecard" for hotels; green travel tips; and links to environmental resources.

Each Silicon Valley property has bettered itself, ecologically speaking, by making environmentally aware changes internally and externally. "We are committed to being a creative steward to our environment as well as delivering delightful guest experiences at each of our uniquely designed properties," said Karlene Holloman, senior vice president of operations at Joie de Vivre.

At the Domain Hotel eco-friendly changes include replacing disposable flatware and tableware with reusable items, installing low-flow toilets and offering an optional towel and linen reuse policy for guests. The Moorpark Hotel recently put in place energy efficient purchasing and usage policies for ordering supplies and using equipment to minimize the impact on the environment.

Along with the unique efforts of each hotel, the Silicon Valley properties each have recycled products, energy saving programs (including air conditioning unit sensors), pollution prevention, and waste reduction and recycling programs. The efforts made in the hotels are all compliant with the Santa Clara County Green Business Program.
