Flor de canela opens at Grand Residences Riviera Cancun

Gourmet Mexican fare arrives in the Riviera Maya’s newest hideaway.

CANCUN, MEXICO – Mexican cuisine done by a gourmet French chef? No, it’s not the hook of a new TV show coming this season. Rather, it’s the concept of Flor de Canela, the newest restaurant at Grand Residences Riviera Cancun, tucked away in the tranquil fishing village of Puerto Morelos. The 103-all-suite luxury beach resort and member of Leading Hotels of the World opened the restaurant to greet the 2016 winter season.

Meaning “the cinnamon flower,” Flor de Canela offers a menu of sharing starters, soups and salads, fish and meats. Fresh seafood plays a central role, with dishes ranging from grouper aguachile to a shrimp and jicama salad with agave syrup, sesame and amaranth seeds to fish a la talla, a whole grouper, snapper or hogfish marinated in talla sauce. The restaurant also features Executive Chef Yann Cozic’s signature guacamole, which includes serrano chili, green apple cubes and pomegranate seeds. The classically-trained French chef has perfected his unique take on Mexican cuisine through years of experience at the noted, chic Hotel Costes in Paris and Au Pied de Cochon in Presidente Intercontinental Hotel in Mexico City.

“A stay at Grand Residences isn’t complete without trying traditional Mexican cuisine,” noted General Manager Carlo Bicaci. “In crafting the menu, we drew from the region’s classic dishes and Chef’s most popular items from cooking classes, Mexican theme nights at El Faro Grill and our exclusive Chef’s Table dining experience. We’re thrilled to offer our guests another dining option to enhance their stays with us and sample gourmet Mexican delicacies.”
