Holidaymakers venturing to adventurous far-flung destinations as world events pique interest

Holidaymakers are increasingly heading to distant shores, according to the UK’s busiest vacation rentals site, holidaylettings.co.uk. South America in particular has seen a huge boost in interest in the early part of 2014 – in particular Brazil as its profile is raised during this year’s World Cup.

New statistics released by UK’s vacation rentals site, holidaylettings.co.uk show that the most significant increase in demand has been for locations such as Brazil, Argentina and the USA – with Asian destinations like India and China close behind. Although traditional European favourites such as the Canary Islands and Spain still attract a high level of enquiries, they did not secure places in the list of top 10 destinations which has seen the highest increase in demand.

South America in particular has seen a huge boost in interest in the early part of 2014 – in particular Brazil as its profile is raised during this year’s World Cup. The increase in attention appears to have also affected other South American destinations, with both Argentina and Costa Rica appearing in the top 10. The interest in Brazil continues after the World Cup period, with many enquiries received for dates after the sporting event.

Kate Stinchcombe-Gillies, spokesperson for holidaylettings.co.uk, said that the focus on Brazil has given many holidaymakers food for thought when it comes to their vacation decisions.

“There has been a noticeable increase in interest in more exotic locations in the last six months as many holidaymakers appear to be seeking vacations that are further off the tourist trail than places closer to home.

“Undoubtedly the World Cup has piqued interest in Brazil, but holidaylettings.co.uk is seeing a widespread increase in demand for South America and other exotic locations that offer holidaymakers a chance to truly embrace a different culture.

“By choosing a vacation rental, holidaymakers are also able to enjoy the most authentic experience of these destinations by living like a local.”

The destinations that have seen the biggest increase in the last year are:

  • Brazil
  • Argentina
  • USA West Coast
  • Costa Rica
  • India
  • Philippines
  • Dominican Republic
  • Iceland
  • Morocco
  • China
