Hotel Marcel reinvents wake-up call to save the planet

Hotel Marcel New Haven

Hotel Marcel launches first-ever “Climate Wake-Up Call” to ensure guests don’t sleep through climate change.

NEW HAVEN, CT – The world needs a wake-up call when it comes to the realities of the climate crisis, and Hotel Marcel New Haven, Tapestry Collection by Hilton – a model for sustainability in the hotel industry – plans to deliver it. Guests of the country’s first hotel to operate fossil fuel-free can now opt in to receive a very different kind of morning wake-up call than what they’ve heard before: a Climate Wake-Up Call.

In place of the typical wake-up call provided by a hotel’s concierge team, guests can elect to “wake up” to important facts delivered by leading voices in climate change, including David Pogue (CBS Sunday Morning correspondent and author of How to Prepare for Climate Change) and John Morales (ClimaData founder and Chief Atmospheric & Environmental Scientist).

The new hotel amenity is being introduced on the heels of two record-breaking days when Planet Earth experienced the hottest temperatures ever recorded. Hotel Marcel is also launching a dedicated website with tips to support a sustainable lifestyle. The property will offer additional on-site touchpoints, including signage and a large lobby phone to encourage guests to schedule their own Climate Wake-Up Calls.

“Other hotels have hit the snooze button when it comes to our changing climate,” said Bruce Becker, owner and developer of Hotel Marcel. “As the leading fossil fuel-free hotel in the United States, we are committed to being part of the solution. Our ‘Climate Wake-Up Call’ delivers important messages to guests with the help of respected climate change activists who share our hope for a global awakening to the realities of our warming planet.”

Tied to this new programming, Hotel Marcel will be donating a portion of proceeds from guest stays to New Haven Climate Movement, a youth-led grassroots organization that promotes climate justice, green jobs, and healthy communities. Hotel Marcel is inviting the wider public to join the solution.
