MUNICH. It`s no play on words, it`s the real thing – literally a hotel on wheels. And though it might sound innovative, the idea is nothing new. It dates back to 1945 when German Georg Holtl, well aware his compatriots love camping, began organising bus trips and took tents along. When caravans appeared, he mulled the idea of a caravan which could cater to several people. So, Holtl started out with one caravan towed by a bus.

Today, his firm Rotel Tours<.> has more than 90 mobile hotels which travel round the world.

At the recent C-B-R 2000<.> travel exhibition in Munich, the firm presented Rotel Tours` programme for 2000 which takes in Greece, specifically Italy-Corfu, Balkans-Thessaloniki, central Greece-Kefalonia-Peloponnese-Crete, Crete, Thessaloniki-Thrace-Turkey-Syria-Jordan.

All are 15-day itineraries with departure dates in April, May, June, September and October. Prices vary according to the itinerary, from 1,440 to 2,080 marks per person.

Additionally, Rotel is offering a tour of Cyprus almost every month between April this year and May of 2001, costing 2,290 marks.
