Liz Phillips joins as Director of People on 1 September, bringing more than 20 years’ experience leading large-staff hospitality businesses.
Macdonald Hotels and Resorts, one of the UK’s largest independent hotel groups, has hired hospitality HR veteran Liz Phillips as its new Director of People.
Liz Phillips joins as Director of People on 1 September, bringing more than 20 years’ experience leading large-staff hospitality businesses. Currently completing an assignment with international food brand Krispy Kreme, she was most recently HR Director at Mitchells & Butlers, whose brands include All Bar One, Miller & Carter, Browns and Premium Country Restaurants. She is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development and a visiting Fellow of Birmingham City Universality.
The Group, which operates 55 hotels and resorts across the UK, Ireland, Spain and Portugal, recently announced the investment of £1.25 million over a three-year period in a new cloud-based HR system which better supports the business that operates 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Liz Phillips, who started her career at the Macdonald Swan Hotel in Grasmere whilst studying for her HCIMA added: “The Macdonald Group has a clear focus on developing its staff to ensure that it consistently delivers outstanding service to guests. Its recent major investment in new HR systems is a testament to its drive to placing people at the very core of its growth and I’m looking forward to contributing my experience in growing brands through talent management.”
As the Macdonald Hotel’s Group celebrates its 25th year of successful business, they recently opened a new five-star resort in the Serra de Monchique Mountains of the Algarve, Macdonald Monchique Hotel & Spa, which in its third month is already enjoying 100% occupancy. The Group also marks the 150th birthday of the Macdonald Randolph Hotel in Oxford and the 50th birthday of the Macdonald Aviemore resort.
