Hutton Brickyards unveils Edgewood

Fully restored historic Edgewood Mansion to house 12 guestrooms, a bar and restaurant, and various gathering spaces at the sprawling Catskills retreat Hutton Brickyards.

KINGSTON, NY – Hutton Brickyards – an imaginative hotel, spa, restaurant and events retreat – is set to unveil phase two of its offering: Edgewood. Located on the sprawling grounds and debuting as an extension of the hotel, Edgewood adds to Hutton Brickyards’ vision for the historic property, which debuted as a hotel in 2021 on the site of the Hudson Valley’s last architecturally intact brick manufactory. Edgewood has been carefully developed by MWest Holdings and is managed by Salt Hotels. Architecture by KDA, Kristina Dousharm, and interior design by Kevin O’Shea of Salt Hotels.

“After almost 10 year of slowly and carefully preserving and building the Hutton Brickyards, and a year renovating Edgewood, it is my great pleasure to be able to share this amazing Second Empire mansion  with the public,” says Karl Slovin, owner, developer, and visionary of the project. “Bringing together all of the original Hutton and Cordts land into one bucolic 100-acre campus has created a truly unique offering for hotel guests, weddings, fairs, festivals and events of all sizes. Hutton Brickyards history and location on the Hudson River make it the ideal spot for marking major life events” says Karl Slovin, Mwest Holdings.

With a storied Hudson Valley past dating back to the 1870s, Edgewood will house Hutton Brickyards’ reception area along with 12 guestrooms (including 3 suites), various gathering spaces like The Drawing Room and The Parlor, vast lawns available for private events against a stunning Hudson River backdrop, and, coming this fall, a signature restaurant and bar also known as simply Edgewood. Cordts and Hutton established their brickyards in 1865, with Cordts running operations for the first ten years. In 1875 Hutton became the president as Cordts focused on his furniture manufacturing business. The Hutton family became the sole owners and operators of the brickyards a few years later and ran the business until 1960.

Edgewood’s restored interiors are the perfect counterparts to the property’s modern waterfront cabins, seamlessly blending past and present on the storied grounds. This brand-new offering effortlessly weaves the history of the Hutton Brickyards into the hospitality offerings themselves, fully realizing Slovin’s vision.

Built in 1873 for prominent brick manufacturer John A. Cordts, the mansion's exterior has been restored yet remains unchanged, while the interior update has aimed to celebrate the historic house and its architectural details by letting them shine alongside a neutral color palette. The three story Second Empire style home features eclectic details including a centered tower, slate sloping concave mansard roof, iron roof cresting, a columned front porch, and bay windows.

Guestrooms are outfitted in warm whites and French grays with vintage touches and original 1800s details. Bright pops of mustard yellow mix with a sophisticated palette of weathered gray and black furniture. Warm and inviting, each room features a cozy seating area with a bistro table, creating a functional spot for drinking, eating, working, or simply relaxing. Guest room decor is heavily influenced by the history of the surrounding area.

The design goal is to celebrate the restored house and its architectural details by letting them shine through – the color palettes are neutral with pops of color and focus on all of the authentic details found within the Second Empire Mansion. The overall aesthetic is meant to evoke a feeling of calmness and serenity on the edge of the woods.

Signature restaurant Edgewood and adjacent Edgewood Bar will debut in November and feature an approachable menu of seasonally-driven, regionally-sourced cuisine alongside inventive cocktails featuring local spirits. A central and cozy meeting spot, the spaces will showcase an eclectic mix of Victorian-era antiques, with furniture pieces original to the house that have been lovingly restored and updated. A large historic bar – taken from the Carriage House on the property – serves as the drinkery’s focal point, while historic chandeliers from the house glitter above the tonal color palette of dusty roses and rich burgundy. The perfect spot for a lazy afternoon cocktail, pre-dinner glass of bubbles, or a late-night aperitif before heading up to bed, Edgewood spills out to the grand covered porch on the front of the house, where sweeping views of the main lawn and the Hudson River Valley await.

Located on the other side of the main floor are The Drawing Room and The Parlor. Designed for gathering, these spaces are ideal for private parties and cozy nights in, furnished with original restored antiques, updated with a color palette of soft greens and gray-blues. Along with providing spaces for Edgewood Bar patrons to imbibe, The Drawing Room and The Parlor provide flexible meeting space for receptions, cocktail events, and modern meetings.

Sitting on over 100 acres of rolling hills and lush meadows, with industrial structures soaring skyward on the majestic Hudson River, Hutton Brickyards has a storied Hudson Valley past. Originally operating as a major manufacturer of brick on the banks of the Hudson for over 100 years, Hutton Brickyards supplied this essential building material for construction projects throughout the Hudson Valley as well as New York City. The opening of Edgewood brings another historical dimension to Hutton Brickyards.

The legacy of the Hudson River brick makers lives on today, though the final bricks were fired in the 1970s. Karl Slovin has worked to preserve, restore, and reimagine Edgewood and the Hutton Brickyards as a world-class event destination and hotel, restored to honor the rich history of the site for a new generation. The opening of Edgewood adds a stunning layer to the bucolic retreat and further establishes Hutton Brickyards as a can't-miss hospitality concept, effortlessly blending outdoor recreation and indoor luxury with a timeless upstate attitude.
