JOI-Design shoots for the moon with Luna

Luna was created in partnership with premium furniture manufacturer Bielefelder Werkstatten to offer a comfortable, versatile and inventive solution for the new breed of hospitality venues where work, travel and social activities merge into a digitally untethered lifestyle.

LONDON – JOI-Design’s successful expansion into product design continues with the release of Luna, a statement piece that combines seating and table functionalities into one adjustable furnishing. Just launched by Products by JOI-Design, the Hamburg-based interior architect’s product design division, Luna was created in partnership with premium furniture manufacturer Bielefelder Werkstatten to offer a comfortable, versatile and inventive solution for the new breed of hospitality venues where work, travel and social activities merge into a digitally untethered lifestyle.

“Our aim was to produce something that would be cosy yet multifunctional, a piece combining stylish and generously sized seating with the practical stability of a table,” explain Peter Joehnk and Corinna Kretschmar-Joehnk, co-managing directors of both JOI-Design and its subsidiary Products by JOI-Design. Composed of a round, smoked glass plate that is swivel-mounted to a softly padded pouf, the piece can effortlessly swing open from its closed state to provide additional seating for one or two people. In lobbies this could mean a flexible work space with a surface for coffees and digital devices, or in a bar, a casual perch for a tete-a-tete with a place to rest cocktails.

With its flexible capabilities, the ottoman can easily be moved from room-to-room to accommodate additional guests without transporting hefty armchairs. Designed with tempered glass and custom upholstery – even for outdoor use – Luna is a furniture innovation to suit all seasons and settings.
