JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge opens 1st April 2023

Liz Harper Travel appointed to represent JW Marriott’s first venture into Africa safari market.

Liz Harper Travel appointed as the representation agency for the new JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge opening 1st April 2023. The luxury tented camp will be located on the banks of Kenya’s Talek River, overlooking the Masai Mara National Reserve.

The property will be the first JW Marriott to cater for the Africa safari market. There will be twenty luxurious and expansive ensuite tents (including an interconnecting family tent with lounge area and a fully accessible tent), all with a private jacuzzi on the deck, overlooking the river.

Stylish communal areas will include both covered and al fresco dining, a well-stocked lounge bar, spa, gym and photographic studio, with state-of-the-art technology to help guests create memorable images from their safari. A large outdoor viewing deck with fire pit will provide an area to relax and enjoy the African bush during the day and evenings and an organic garden will ensure guests enjoy the freshest local produce.

Much consideration has been put into decisions around the design, build and operation of this new luxury lodge. Every effort has been made to stay true to the brand’s values of respecting nature, culture and the environment. Much of the construction of the property was undertaken by the local community, overseen by technical specialists, with build materials sourced from sustainable suppliers. Kenyan woods, wicker and soft furnishings are prominent throughout. Food not grown on-site in the camps sustainable garden will be sourced locally wherever possible, and the majority of the camp staff are from the local community.

Conscious and respectful, to land and people, every step of the way, J W Marriott are committed to ongoing support of key conservation and community projects across the Mara, with a number of projects and initiatives already underway, and more in the pipeline. The property is being built on a site that was already committed to a tourism product so will not unduly disturb the surrounding environment.

JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge is a joint venture with Baraka Lodges Ltd and is JW Marriott’s first venture into the safari market. It’s a project that’s been a long time coming, with J W Marriott committed from the offset to “doing it right and respectfully”.
