Kate Hoey, Vauxhall MP, launches Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts’ apprenticeship scheme

Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts is pleased to announce that, as part of its "You" employee training initiative, it is launching a new Apprenticeship Scheme for employees. The scheme is officially launched at 12 noon on 8th November by Vauxhall MP, Kate Hooey, at Park Plaza County Hall and will offer employees nationally accredited apprenticeships during 2010/11.

Teams in all departments, including front of house, housekeeping, administration and food and beverage, will have access to an appropriate Apprenticeship training pathway within 12 months, as part of the scheme developed by Park Plaza’s UK Training Manager, Claire Whitehouse.

Ms Whitehouse says: "We fully support the government’s strategy to promote apprenticeships and we will be using the scheme to target skills gaps and provide the opportunity for our staff to progress from entry level through to advanced level qualifications. Through an active learning approach, employees will directly implement their new knowledge and skills into their roles as they learn on the job."

The event will be hosted by Simon Mahon, General Manager of Park Plaza County Hall, with guest speakers David Smale, Director of Learner Services for the National Apprenticeship Service and Kate Hoey, ex Minister for Sport and MP for Vauxhall, who is said to be delighted to support this admirable commitment to employee skills.

The new scheme has been and is supported by national work-based training provider The Skills Partnership, which will work on behalf of Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts supplying their expertise in work-based training and assessment through a national network of experienced training and assessment staff.

Mike Bourke, Chief Executive of The Skills Partnership says: "This new programme that we will be rolling out on behalf of Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts complements the existing induction and basic skills delivery that has been taking place very well. It makes a huge difference to be working closely with an organisation that is so supportive and positive about how it develops its people. We expect the scheme to work well and be very successful in terms of rates of employee achievement."

Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts’ investment in providing nationally recognised development and progression opportunities for its employees at this time is in stark contrast to many of its competitors and comes on the back of very positive interim results published in September.
