The highly successful Le Meridien  Limassol in Cyprus, in its aim to become the leading resort in the Eastern Mediterranean, opened  on 30th June 2000 an indoor/outdoor Thalassotherapy Health Spa with a difference and, to reflect this and other changes, it has been renamed Le Meridien Limassol Spa & Resort.
In conjunction with the Management of Forte Village in Sardinia (another Le Meridien Resort), recently voted as the World`s Leading Resort in 1999, it will operate this special facility on the lines of the popular Thermae Del Parco. There are 4 outdoor sea water pools, each with a different salinity content and temperature, a Hammam, Saunas and Whirlpools as well as a heated indoor sea water swimming pool, 2 indoor sea water pools, an Algaeotherapy Centre and 20 Treatment Rooms. Specialist consultants are available to advise guests on what treatments they should take and special health menus are also available. The whole spa is surrounded by another free form fresh water pool featuring waterfalls and grottos, the largest seawater pool on the island and an inland lagoon with a speciality Japanese restaurant.
The main architects of this project are the London office of Wimberly, Allison, Tong and Goo, the creators of the Royal Mirage in Dubai and the landscaping is being coordinated by James Nicolay of Honolulu, who has designed the gardens of various Shangri-La Hotels in the Far East among others…
Parallel to this, a new Tennis Centre has been created, next to the Penguin Village, with 4 floodlit Championship standard tennis courts. The highly popular Penguin Village Children`s Club will itself receive another climbing apparatus in order to keep the children happy and there will be a waterslide in the main freshwater pool.
All this will be complemented by the opening of the Royal Spa Wing with 18 Superior Rooms (42m²), 6 Cabanas (47m²) each with their own Private Jacuzzi and 4 Royal Suites (77m²), which will overlook the Spa, and the conversion of 13 Garden Villas into Royal Garden Suites with the addition of a private pool and dining terrace for their exclusive use. This all follows on from the upgrading, in winter 1998/9, of the hotel`s two Fifth Floor Presidential Suites with their own private pools, which have been enjoying extremely high occupancies ever since.
Last year the hotel also opened La Sirene Night Club, the only one of its kind in Cyprus, with top shows from as far as Canada and Cuba as well as nearer home and, with the addition of this impressive array of new facilities, the hotel has been renamed “Le Meridien Limassol Spa & Resort” as it becomes the ultimate Spa & Resort dedicated to health, relaxation, therapy and beauty.
