Le Meridien to debut in Cleveland as part of downtown revitalization

Slated to open in January 2016, Le Meridien Cleveland will transform two historic buildings on Euclid Avenue, formerly known as “Millionaire’s Row”.

NEW YORK – Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. announced that its Le Meridien brand is picking up even more momentum in North America with a new hotel planned for Cleveland, Ohio. Le Meridien Cleveland will open in January 2016 following the completion of a highly anticipated, adaptive re-use project that will join together and transform two adjacent, historic buildings on Euclid Avenue. Owned by JHB Hotel, LLC, Le Meridien Cleveland will be the brand’s third historic adaptive re-use project in North America, following Le Meridien Philadelphia and Le Meridien Tampa, showcasing a timeless chic design ethos that juxtaposes traditional architecture with contemporary style.

“Le Meridien Cleveland will build upon the brand’s success with historic, adaptive re-use projects and provide travellers with an enticing new option in the heart of Cleveland’s thriving theatre district,” said Allison Reid, Senior Vice President of North America Development, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. “We are thrilled to work with JHB Hotel, LLC to introduce this contemporary lifestyle brand to Cleveland as part of the city’s on-going downtown rejuvenation.”

Formerly known as “Millionaire’s Row,” Euclid Avenue was home to the city’s most affluent citizens and a must-see destination for European travellers in the early 1900s when Cleveland was a major manufacturing hub. The new Le Meridien Cleveland will be developed at 1001-1101 Euclid Avenue as part of a visionary project that will connect and transform two adjacent buildings – the John Hartness Brown Building (JHB Building), originally constructed in 1901 as a multi-story office building with retail space, and 1101 Euclid Avenue, built in 1915 as an office building. The development will also include 10,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space and a 125-space parking garage.

Situated in the heart of the city’s bustling theatre district, Le Meridien Cleveland will be adjacent to Playhouse Square, the second largest theatre complex in the United States, and walking distance to the newly developed Horseshoe Casino and Cleveland Convention Center. Nearby attractions include the city’s vibrant East 4th Street entertainment district, Progressive Field and Cleveland Browns Stadium. Guests will enjoy easy access to the rest of the city via the HealthLine Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system and Cleveland’s RTA Free E-Line Trolley.

“We’re thrilled to debut Le Meridien in Cleveland as part of the brand’s aggressive expansion in North America,” said Brian Povinelli, Global Brand Leader, Le Meridien and Westin Hotels. “Since acquiring the brand in 2005, Starwood has made significant investments in redeveloping Le Meridien, which connects with guests through the art, culture and cuisine in key cities around the world, and we look forward to playing a significant role in the resurgence of Downtown Cleveland.”

In addition to 206 modern guest rooms and suites, Le Meridien Cleveland will feature a full-service restaurant, signature bar, 3,000 square-foot lounge, indoor pool, 24-hour fitness center, and more than 12,000 feet of state-of-the-art meeting and event space, perfect for social occasions and business functions.

Le Meridien Cleveland will feature the brand’s signature Le Meridien Hub experience, which re-interprets the traditional lobby into a social gathering place for creative people to converse, debate, and exchange. Le Meridien Hub further builds on the brand’s award-winning arrival experience and coffee culture. Le Meridien arrival consists of four elements: large-scale artwork in high impact areas to reset the mind and stimulate dialogue and curiosity; the sensory experience, illustrated through Le Meridien signature scent, sound and use of light, creating a unique and distinctive atmosphere; UNLOCK ART programme, featuring LM100 artist designed key card collections that not only offer access to the guestroom but also to Le Meridien affiliated contemporary cultural centers in the city; and a 24-hour curated soundtrack. The Hub at Le Meridien Cleveland will also feature the signature Master Barista, a recently launched initiative to meet the growing demands of coffee lovers at every Le Meridien hotel worldwide. Master Baristas lead coffee-related initiatives at each hotel, serve as a coffee cultural ambassador, and maintain knowledge of current coffee trends within the destination.

“We are thrilled to team up with Starwood to bring Le Meridien to Cleveland,” said Stephen Goodman, Western National Capital Partners, LLC. “Without the support of the City of Cleveland, the Downtown Cleveland Alliance, Heritage Ohio and the Historic Gateway Neighborhood Corporation, this project would not have been possible, and I sincerely thank each of them for their efforts.”
