London tops list of UK’s most female-friendly hotels

Jurys Inn, Sheffield

79 hotels were nominated by women travellers through Redfern’s website and these were whittled down to the shortlist of eight based on the scores and feedback given.

London has topped a shortlist of the UK’s most female-friendly hotels, claiming four of the eight finalist places in this year’s SOLO campaign run by leading travel management company Redfern.

The Waterloo and London Riverbank Park Plaza hotels both made this year’s cut alongside the Radisson Vanderbilt and the Ibis Hotel London Blackfriars. Premier Inn received two nominations for Aberdeen and Telford. Venues in Croydon and Sheffield were also shortlisted.

Launched last year, SOLO was introduced by Redfern to track down those hotels across the UK who really understand the needs of women business travellers and go the extra mile to fulfil them, particularly in relation to security and comfort.

79 hotels were nominated by women travellers through Redfern’s website and these were whittled down to the shortlist of eight based on the scores and feedback given. Over the last two months, a group of female mystery shoppers have visited each of the eight hotels and checking their levels of security, customer service and recognition of lone travellers as well as facilities to make the stay more comfortable and secure. The winning hotel will be announced in July.

We’re living in an age where business is not only recognising how important it is for women to feel to safe at work – whether that’s in the office, out at meetings or travelling on business – but hotels and businesses alike are now finally taking action,” said Redfern head of account management Louise Hutchinson-Chambers.

Over the last few years, hotels have made significant inroads in meeting the specific needs of women business travellers. Discreet checkin and consideration to room allocation, are just two of the changes we have seen. But more can be done, and that’s why we introduced SOLO: to shine a light on those hotels that are already making changes to ensure women feel safe and comfortable during their stay.”

The first SOLO campaign was won by The Crowne Plaza Newcastle Stephenson Quarter and one of this year’s nominees will be lucky enough to win a night’s stay in the hotel. All of the hotels nominated during the 2016 and 2017 campaigns are highlighted on Redfern’s travel booking system – TRIPS – making it easier for bookers and travellers to identify female-friendly hotels as recommended by like-minded businesswomen.
