General managers from Bass Hotels<.> & Resorts` properties across the Middle East and Africa have assembled in the UAE to reinforce synergies between the Inter-Continental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn brands, as the world`s most global hotel operator forges ahead with a major regional development programme.

Talking about the conference which carries the theme: Building on the Momentum, David Bland, Managing Director, Bass Hotels & Resorts – Europe, Middle East and Africa said: This conference is very important to the region as we continue to build on our success with the Inter-Continental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn brands. We are driving the operational and marketing synergies that exist across our brands – to the benefit of our owners, our staff and our customers.

The meeting will focus on the company`s performance and new strategic directions, while also addressing the strong synergies between the Inter-Continental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn brands, build on the communications channel between general managers and corporate staff, reinforce the Bass Hotels & Resorts network, and drive revenues and profits.

Raymond Khalife, President, Bass Hotels & Resorts, Middle East and Africa commented: We are able to reinforce the Inter-Continental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn brands with cohesive support services, including a joint worldwide reservations network and global sales structures. And we`re looking to our general managers to ensure we capitalise fully on our strengths as a multi-branded hotel operator, while still highlighting the core value of each brand.

With 115 properties under management in the Middle East and Africa, Bass Hotels & Resorts has plans to develop a further 26 hotels and resorts. Expansion plans include landmark openings at a number of new destinations, including the management of Inter-Continental and Holiday Inn hotels in Tunisia for the same owner.

Impressive new Inter-Continental resorts will open in Taba Heights and Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt in October (2001), while another new Inter-Continental property follows in Makkah in Saudi Arabia in November.

With five Crowne Plaza hotels currently under management in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kuwait, Jeddah and Muscat, the brand`s first new resort property opens in Sharm El Sheikh in June (2001), while another Egyptian Red Sea resort property is under development at Abu Soma. New Crowne Plaza hotels are also taking shape in Beirut and Cairo.

The full service Holiday Inn brand is also expanding rapidly across the region, and arrives at another new destination with the opening of the Holiday Inn Doha in Qatar in October (2001). Another 11 new Holiday Inn properties are under development in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, while the brand`s second hotel opens in Dubai this year.
