The Millennium Alaskan Hotel is putting the finishing touches on a $1.6 million renovation and remodeling of rooms and hallways that will give the distinctively Alaskan property a fresh, brighter feel without altering the character for which it has earned the appreciation of loyal customers.

We are delighted in this major upgrade that gives the Millennium Alaskan a fresh, more contemporary appearance without changing the appealing, and genuinely Alaskan, feel of the property, said Bill Remmer, the hotel`s director of sales and marketing. Remmer described the overall impact of the renovations as providing a lighter, brighter ambiance in guestrooms and hallways in keeping with what he describes as an upscale Alaskan hunting lodge atmosphere. Guests new and old will continue to enjoy the wrought iron moose lamps and the game fish designs on pillows but they will be in the context of a freshly polished, lighter in color guestroom, he said.

Among the highlights of the room renovations are new carpeting, entry ceilings, bathroom lighting and fans, vanities and sinks, tubs and tub surrounds as well as new pillow-top mattresses, curtains, window shades, valances, bed spreads and decorative pillows fabricated especially for the hotel. Hallway improvements include all new carpeting and wall coverings.

The hotel`s suites, gutted and completely remodeled, feature all new furniture, lighting and carpeting, wall coverings, floor tiles, curtains, window shades, valances and beds with new pillow-top mattresses and spreads. These newly redesigned suites will still feature their own signature Jacuzzi tubs and fireplaces as well.

Situated on the eastern shore of Lake Spenard, the Millennium Alaskan is located only one mile from the Anchorage International Airport and ten minutes from downtown. The hotel`s lobby possesses the ambience of a world-class hunting lodge, with rich furnishings, a one-of-a-kind six-foot in diameter globe, a rock fireplace and Alaskan artifacts. The 248 spacious guestrooms feature king-sized or two double beds.

The hotel`s facilities include The Flying Machine Restaurant and the Fancy Moose Lounge, both overlooking the lake and the world`s largest float-plane base. Seven meeting rooms with a total of 6,000 square feet make the Millennium Alaskan an ideal choice for business and meetings as well as vacation travel. In addition to Lake Spenard, nearby attractions include the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge, the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, Earthquake Park, the Anchorage Museum of History and Art and the Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum. Hotel guests also may tour the region, including Mt. McKinley and the Chugach Mountains, by airplane.
