Mystery unveiled at the W Mexico City

Award-winning architecture and design firm nemaworkshop creates a sense of mystery and illusion at the W Mexico City.
The design of the W Mexico City’s Living Room spaces have been unveiled with an intriguing concept by award-winning studio nemaworkshop. Anurag Nema, principal of the New York City-based firm, has worked with W Hotels before and for the brand’s latest incarnation, wanted to infuse the new space with elements of mystery and illusion.

Award-winning architecture and design firm nemaworkshop creates a sense of mystery and illusion at the W Mexico City. Moving through the property’s public areas reveals the space’s secret identities, as forms, furnishings and materials transform with every step, turn and glance. Custom made and unique finishes inspired by local values are combined in playful experimentation. Each space found in the lobby at the W Mexico City thus becomes a revelation.

Throughout the lobby, nemaworkshop used Polanco as a backdrop, developing a design saturated by colors, shapes and textures, paying homage to Mexico City’s rich history. A pyramid, with hidden messages only visible at night, greets newcomers in the lobby and intimate pockets with laser-cut screens and chairs with backings reminiscent of a mask conceal VIP guests. When hotel guests look up at the main bar, waves encompass the ceiling thanks to reflective surfacing material, giving off the illusion of moving water. Entering the dark bathroom one is greeted by an unexpected tequila bar, revealing another one of W Mexico secrets.

Coming soon, guestrooms and suites at the W Mexico City will be unveiled, incorporating continued mystery, illusions and design by nemaworkshop.
