New hotels in Hamburg

Fontenay Hamburg.

Six major new hotels due in second half of 2017.

“It’s a reflection of modern Hamburg – its cosmopolitan outlook, its attitude and openness, cultivated over centuries of international commerce,” Klaus-Michael Kuhne explains his reasons for choosing Hamburg as a location for The Fontenay, his new 5* luxury hotel.

The honorary chairman of the Kuehne + Nagel Group, one of the world's leading logistics companies seized the opportunity to build a hotel on the banks of Lake Alster as a lasting tribute to Hamburg, the city where he was born.

The 5 star Fontenay, scheduled to open in October, offers breath-taking views of the city’s famous Alster Lake. Designed by Hamburg-born star architect Jan Stormer, the hotel is located in its own private park in the city, and boasts a modern and innovative sculptural design featuring 131 rooms and suites.

Innside Melia Hamburg HafenCity is scheduled to open in July. The 4 star hotel has 207 rooms and suites as well as a canal side terrace for dining. Christine Klein, general manager at Innside by Melia Hamburg, explains: “The city is a hub of creativity, innovation and technology. It has its own lifestyle and spirit, and is always evolving and that’s what makes it a really attractive location.”

Adina Apartment Hotel, set to open in Q4, offers stylish city centre apartments, located close to the UNESCO Speicherstadt and the Zollkanal (Customs canal). It will have 202 studios and apartments along with a spa with pool, sauna and a gym with views onto Speicherstadt, the largest warehouse district in the world.

Ruby Hotel is set to open towards the end of the year with 289 rooms, the majority of which will have a view of the typical Hamburg river channels known as “Fleet”. Also set to open in Q4 is the 4 star Courtyard by Marriott and Holiday Inn Hamburg City Nord.

Florian Gerdes, Marketing Manager Conventions at Hamburg Convention Bureau, sums up: “From major 5 and 4 star names through to quirky boutique hotels, there’s a huge choice of top notch accommodation launching in key locations throughout the city including near the airport, the city centre and our famous harbour by the iconic River Elbe.

“Hamburg is increasingly topping the traveller’s to do lists, having been recently rated as one of the 50 ‘must see’ destinations by Conde Nast Traveller and ranked 10th among ‘52 Places to Go’ by the New York Times.”
