Oman to throw the spotlight on its MICE projects at GIBTM 2014

Oman’s growing reputation as a leading MICE destination will be the agenda for the Ministry’s representatives, underpinning a prime focus on ongoing MICE projects.

Oman’s Ministry of Tourism has announced its participation at this year’s edition of the Gulf Incentive, Business Travel & Meetings event (GIBTM), the Middle East’s dedicated business platform connecting the region’s inbound and outbound meeting, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) and the business travel industry, which isheld from March 24 to 26, 2014 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre (ADNEC). The Ministry will showcase some of its unique tourism developments in the Sultanate via a special presentation that will include the USD 1.8 billion Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, which is set to open in late 2016.

During the three-day show, senior officials of the Oman Ministry of Tourism attend several specially arranged meetings with various MICE travel suppliers and other key industry players. Oman has garnered tremendous attraction from MICE organisers in the last couple of years, as it gives great value for money because of its diverse offerings. Aside from excellent business hotels and amenities to host a perfect event, visitors to the Sultanate can enjoy natural and historical tours, adventure activities such as wadi bashing, dune bashing and water sports, premium spa and dining facilities, cultural visits to venues such as the Royal Opera House Muscat and Beit Zubair museum, and shopping and others leisure options.

Oman’s growing reputation as a leading MICE destination will be the agenda for the Ministry’s representatives, underpinning a prime focus on ongoing MICE projects. Besides, the major hospitality developments such as the Holiday Inn Al Seeb, the Swiss-BelHotel in Muscat, Crowne Plaza in Duqm, Radisson Blue in Sohar and the proposed Missoni Jebel Sifah, among others, will also be the highlight of the Ministry’s participation.

Ghasi Humaid Al Hashmi, Deputy Director General of Tourism Promotion, Oman Ministry of Tourism, said: “GIBTM is a vital platform for MICE and the business travel industry in the Middle East and our participation will throw the spotlight on our superior offerings for this segment. Oman’s strategic location across the crossroads of Europe and Asia along with others factors such as easy connectivity with different parts of the world, well-developed travel and hospitality infrastructure and world-class MICE amenities make the Sultanate one of the leading MICE destinations in the GCC. Our presence at GIBTM 2014 will give us the opportunity to get fresh insights about latest industry trends, as well as network with prospective customers and industry experts, thereby allowing us to design our business travel agenda for the coming year. Apart from business travel, we will also focus on leisure travel by promoting the Sultanate’s leisure, cultural and historical attractions.”

This year’s edition of the GIBTM 2014 is set to welcome over 3,000 industry professionals from the Middle East and worldwide, including leading international industry buyers and suppliers, event planners, decision makers as well as those involved in booking and busying business travel/group travel. The show will also highlight the growing trend to double up destinations apart from focusing on other current topics, industry trends and buyer behaviours driving the development of the MICE sector.
