OTAs increase rate disparity in hotel industry

This year’s report features a high number of new entries in tables of OTAs ranked by disparity.

More and more travelers are looking to online travel agencies (OTAs) when booking vacations to cut down on costs. With OTAs selling hotel rooms at discounted rates, it’s difficult for hotels using direct booking to compete. OTA Insight, a cloud-based data intelligence platform for the hospitality industry, recently released its Annual Hotel Parity Review to allow hoteliers to understand parity performance in different markets.

This year’s report features a high number of new entries in tables of OTAs ranked by disparity. The OTAs undercut hotels, preventing them from having a competitive position in the market. For example, OTA Hotels for Everyone causes a 62% loss when compared to direct booking through hotels.
