Reto Torriani tapped to reopen Sonoma Coast's Timber Cove as General Manager

A winner of the prestigious Gallivanter's Guide Award of Excellence, Torriani's sharp attention to detail and warm disposition have served him well over his 30-year career.

JENNER, CALIF. – Timber Cove, reopening on the Sonoma Coast this summer after an extensive renovation, has appointed global hospitality veteran and industry leader Reto V. Torriani as its General Manager.

Torriani is a guest-focused hotelier who has specialized in operating luxury boutique hotels and resorts on five continents. A winner of the prestigious Gallivanter’s Guide Award of Excellence, Torriani’s sharp attention to detail and warm disposition have served him well over his 30-year career. This wealth of experience makes Torriani the ideal manager to propel Timber Cove into its next era of excellence.

After managing and renovating the iconic Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa in Bali for the Sultan of Brunei, he worked in Malaysia and Vietnam before serving in his most recent role as General Manager of the Royal Phuket Yacht Club and the Manathai Khao Lak Resort in Thailand. Torriani’s leadership has consistently produced exceptional guest experiences, operational efficiencies and a culture of constant improvement. Knowledgeable and comfortable in a wide variety of cultures and fluent in several languages, he is particularly skilled at making guests feel at home anywhere in the world.

He will oversee all operations at Timber Cove near Jenner and Bodega Bay when it reopens in summer 2016. The resort features 46 guest rooms (including eight newly constructed suites), redesigned banquet and meeting space, a full-service oceanfront restaurant and other first-class amenities.

The stunning 25-acre property provides guests with an unparalleled opportunity to connect with nature in a peaceful and intimate way – a mission that, much like the land itself, Torriani found irresistible.

“The opportunity to live, work and serve in such a magnificent setting is the chance of a lifetime,” Torriani said. “I envision Timber Cove as more than a resort, more than a luxurious escape. It’s truly a vehicle that will enable our guests to connect with nature and create meaningful experiences that evolve throughout the year. We want to showcase our luxury in an understated, personal, and family-oriented way. Our goal is not formality, but casual attentiveness, relaxation, and daily curated experiences, such as our wine tastings, guided hikes, fireside treats and seasonal dining menus.”

All aspects of Timber Cove – from the handcrafted beds to the multitude of outdoor activities, and even the resort’s approach to understated-but-perfect service – keep the notion of rejuvenation at the forefront.

“We want our guests to feel that Timber Cove is a place to let go, to be free,” Torriani said. “It’s an indulgence, but a healthy one. This is a place that encourages introspection, inspiration and connection to the things and people most important in one’s life.”
