Rigas Hotel in Skopelos, Greece Reopens in June, 2016 Following Major Renovations

All 95 rooms, suites, and apartments where completely emptied and went through extensive cleaning following the strictest guidelines.

Rigas Hotel of Spyrou Hotels on the island of Skopelos, Greece recently underwent major top-to-bottom renovations, reopening its doors in June 2016. The renovation encompasses the entire hotel: specifically all public spaces, including the lobby and restaurant area, pool, outdoor areas and hotel grounds, facade, and corridors. Many guest rooms were completely renovated and numerous accommodations were significantly updated and refurbished.

The renovation follows the severe flooding that took place on the island in September 2015. All 95 rooms, suites, and apartments where completely emptied and went through extensive cleaning following the strictest guidelines. Rooms were redesigned and equipped with new furniture and fixings, new tiling, and completely new bathrooms. Each room now comes with a new flat screen television, in-room safe, mini fridge, furnished balcony or veranda, and individually controlled air conditioning units. The suites also were upgraded with new furniture and fixings in addition to immense work done on the outdoor areas.

Plans of prominent Greek-Australian Architect Nikos Chatzigiannakis were followed in the renovations in addition to outdoor conceptualization by leading landscape architect Christos Mortoglou of Christos Garden Design.

The major renovation included the common areas of the hotel such as the reception and restaurant which had significant stucco work on the interiors and special wood treatments to the outdoor patio areas. The sundeck around the hotel’s pool was completely rebuilt. The hotel’s boiler room and water supply also were upgraded.

A significant amount of planting of different trees and shrubs was done throughout the property, adding to shading, and offering beautiful colors and aromas. The architects implemented the design of a new village concept, central to the Rigas Hotel history. A creation of an outdoor square, similar to what you can find in traditional villages throughout Greece, was constructed around the upgraded pool area where a new wooden deck was installed around the perimeter. A perfect meeting and mingling area, the square will host Greek nights with local musicians on special occasions and traditional Easter celebrations with outdoor barbeques.

Following the pool area, the hotel then segues to the apartments. Here, the outdoor landscape architects created the park area, again incorporating trees and shrubs found natively on the island. The outdoor park creates a warm and inviting environment with benches and sitting areas, all while being accompanied by fountains and water fixtures – as water is an important element further adding to the guests’ relaxation. Catering to families, the park area also contains a newly erected complete children’s playground.

In addition to the work that was done on the physical aspects of the property, the hotel also went through immense upgrades to its technical infrastructure with high speed internet access throughout the property – offered complimentary to the hotel guests. Epi Systems S.A. handled the technical upgrades with internet services being offered to guests via Spotyy’s state-of-the-art Wi-Fi platform for connection.

Great attention to detail was given to every aspect of the hotel and its history on Skopelos. Traditional architecture was not only preserved, but highlighted to offer visitors a true experience during their stay. The transformation pays homage to its surroundings, capturing the serene nature of the island and the sense of village, all while incorporating all the comforts of home.

“Rigas Hotel will be a space where our guests can enjoy fantastic service in addition to upgraded facilities and hotel amenities designed for the most discerning traveler,” said George Michalis, General Director for Spyrou Hotels.
