SiteMinder World Hotel Index: Europe pushes global hotel bookings past a quarter of 2019 levels

France’s hotel bookings have almost doubled to 22.36% YoY since the last week of May, ahead of the second phase of easing lockdown rules taking effect 2 June.

LONDON, UK – Data by SiteMinder, the global hotel industry’s leading guest acquisition platform, reveals a growing demand for travel within Europe has pushed total hotel bookings worldwide past a quarter of 2019 levels. The SiteMinder World Hotel Index shows the volume of hotel bookings globally has now reached 29.62% YoY.

Among the key findings from the SiteMinder World Hotel Index are:

  • France’s hotel bookings have almost doubled to 22.36% YoY since the last week of May, ahead of the second phase of easing lockdown rules taking effect 2 June.
  • The steep rise of Portugal’s hotel bookings has continued, reaching 28.51% of last year’s levels, while neighbouring Spain is following a similar trend, with hotel bookings surging to 23.38% YoY. 
  • Germany has grown its hotel bookings from 32.51% to 40.18% YoY over the past week, led by Hamburg which is seeing nearly half (49.59%) of the booking volume it saw this same time last year.
