Starwood Hotels & Resorts re-opens Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers – Signs of new Sheraton Kigali in Rwanda

DUBAI, UAE – Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. announced the re-opening of the iconic Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers following an extensive US$50 million renovation. Opened in 1978, the landmark hotel was the first Starwood hotel to open in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Following the transformation – which includes all guest rooms, facilities, public spaces and the hotel’s Italian restaurant, Vivaldi by Alfredo Russo – Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers will continue to be a choice gathering place for global travellers and the local community.

Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers
Located on the Creek’s edge with uninterrupted water and city views, the hotel’s new design offers a stylish relaxing escape from the bustling city for business and leisure travellers. Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers comprises 268 guestrooms and suites, providing guests with the perfect respite to immerse themselves in the charms of old Dubai. The fully refurbished rooms offer panoramic water and city views, feature a contemporary design with a warm palette and are equipped with the signature all-white Sheraton Sweet Sleeper Bed.

The top floors of the hotel offer guests Sheraton Club rooms and suites, with exclusive access to the Sheraton Club Lounge for private check-in and check-out, complimentary continental breakfast, evening drinks and snacks and free wireless internet access.

Destination Dining
Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers offers an array of dining experiences in a prime location along the Creek. Heralded as one of the best Italian restaurants in Dubai, Vivaldi by Alfredo Russo offers a creative gastronomic menu created by Michelin-starred chef Alfredo Russo. Overlooking the waters and skyline of Dubai, the restaurant features a climate-controlled terrace for year-round al-fresco dining.

The award-winning Ashiana is a pioneer of traditional Indian cuisine in Dubai, using progressive techniques served with modern presentation. Diners can enjoy the theatre of cooking at the live-action Creekside Japanese Restaurant, seeing chefs in action at the Teppanyaki grill, wok or seafood stations.

One of the very first English pubs in Dubai, Chelsea Arms, continues to offer a truly British experience, while the Lobby Cafe – the social gathering place of the neighbourhood – will serve a wide selection of cakes and pastries throughout the day, as well as afternoon tea. Hatta, the hotel’s international buffet restaurant, offers a relaxed atmosphere overlooking the Dubai Creek.

Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers is close to the Dubai International Airport and the city’s premier shopping destinations, as well as popular attractions such as the famous Gold and Spice Souks, the historic merchant market of Al Bastakiya and Dubai Museum.

Starwood in the UAE
The UAE is Starwood’s largest market in the Middle East where at present the company has 23 hotels. The company operates 14 hotels in Dubai, representing the largest concentration of Starwood hotels anywhere in the world except New York. Starwood has nearly 50 hotels across the Middle East, with a pipeline of over 35 scheduled open in the next few years.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Continues Expansion Across Africa
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. also announced that it has signed an agreement with Century Park and Hotel Residences Ltd. to open a new Sheraton hotel in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. Scheduled to open in 2018, Sheraton Kigali will mark Starwood’s entry into Rwanda and will be the company’s 50th hotel in Africa. With this signing, Starwood is on track to increase its African portfolio by over 30% with more than 15 new hotels to open over the next five years.

“We look forward to partnering with Century Park and Hotel Residences on this milestone entry into Rwanda as we continue to expand our presence in Africa,” said Michael Wale. “Our innovative approach to managing lifestyle brands continues to set us apart from the competition and, with the signing of this agreement, we are proud to debut Starwood and the Sheraton brand in Rwanda’s economic, cultural, and transport hub.”

“The hospitality sector is one of the main industries driving infrastructure development in Rwanda and is also a key foreign exchange earner for the country. We seek to tap into Rwanda’s rapidly growing real estate and hospitality markets, which growth has been spurred on by a rising demand for hotel accommodation resulting mainly from a conducive business environment,” Billy Cheung Yiu Tung, Chairman, Century Park Hotel & Residences Ltd. commented. “With this objective in mind, we are delighted to secure a strategic partnership with Starwood Hotel & Resorts to operate our first hospitality project in Kigali.”

Situated in the prestigious Gasabo district, Sheraton Kigali will be located seven kilometers from Kigali International Airport and offer easy access to the city center, key government offices as well as the lush surroundings of Lake Nyarutarama and Nyabarongo River wetlands.

The 136-room hotel will feature signature Sheraton experiences, including the all-white Sweet Sleeper beds, the Sheraton Club Lounge and rooms, the Link@Sheraton experienced with Microsoft® and the Sheraton Fitness by Core Performance. Guests will be able to enjoy relaxing treatments at the Sheraton Shine Spa, inclusive of an outdoor swimming pool, as well as easy access to adjoining retail shops.

Sheraton Kigali will also include 62 serviced apartments available to guests for extended stays in the capital, as well as an all-day dining venue, a specialty restaurant and a lobby lounge. With 900 square meters of meeting space and a business center, the hotel will be the new gathering place in the capital for international business travellers and their local counterparts when it opens.

Starwood has a long history of being first movers around the world and this holds true in Africa where Starwood first opened the Sheraton Cairo in 1971. Currently, Starwood operates 37 hotels in 15 African countries, representing more than 10,000 rooms in Algeria, Cameroon, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Libya, Mauritius, Morocco, Nigeria, Seychelles, South Africa, Tunisia and Uganda. By 2015, Starwood plans to have nearly 50 hotels in Africa with new hotels opening in Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Senegal and Mauritius.
