Terranea Resort celebrates 8-year anniversary with completion of an extensive property enhancement

The luxurious oceanside resort unveils updated guestrooms, adding to the recently redesigned restaurant and a fourth resort pool.

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA – Terranea Resort, A Destination Hotel, unveils extensive property enhancements in celebration of eight years as Los Angeles’s leading coastal resort. The updates retain the heritage of Terranea’s distinct aesthetic, featuring a blend of classic Spanish Colonial style with the casual elegance of Coastal California. Since its opening, Terranea has invested approximately $40 million into the resort via property-wide enhancements, from upgraded guestroom amenities to major projects including the addition of a fourth resort pool, a new poolside eatery, and a complete redesign of its hallmark casual dining venue, catalina kitchen.

Haack says. “The enhancements and innovations – both large and small – over the past eight years ensure that Terranea continues to thrive as we build our legacy as an iconic L.A. resort.”

This year, California-based interior design firm, BAMO, reimagined Terranea’s guestrooms and suites with aesthetic upgrades that reflect the Mediterranean style of the resort, including new decor and furnishings closely attuned to guests’ preferences. Elegant round marble tables, which enable a wider variety of uses, replace the existing desks, and each room also features new mattresses and bed linens. These in-room enhancements, combined with those completed in 2015, total $8 million in capital improvements invested in the resort's guestrooms. During the most recent enhancement, Terranea donated furniture, mirrors, lighting fixtures and electronics to The ReStore, a social enterprise of Habitat for Humanity, allowing the resort to further their relationship with the community. The profits generated from the sale of these items helps Habitat LA provide decent and affordable housing opportunities for low-income families and individuals in the greater Los Angeles area.

Premium and Standard Guestrooms feature wood and mirrored-millwork paneling that provides a rich backdrop for a new Spanish Colonial-style raised-panel dresser and modern table. Contemporary local artwork, exclusive to the room category, complements both rooms’ designs. Enhancements in the Shearwater Suites and Vanderlip Suite feature a mix of traditional and modern elements – warm wood tones accentuate the coastal tones and refined palette. Redesigned over the past year, Terranea’s bungalows, casitas, and villas also include enhancement updates.

Another significant development in Terranea's continued evolution, catalina kitchen relaunched with a redesign that now features an open kitchen, all-new menus, revamped interior and exterior decor, and the addition of a bar featuring signature cocktails. A variety of new experiential food stations now line the perimeter of the restaurant, including a seafood island at which guests can observe the chefs at work.

In the summer of 2015, Terranea introduced the Vista Pool, the resort’s fourth pool, open to guests ages 13 and older. Located adjacent to Terranea’s signature restaurant, mar’sel, the $3.4 million addition features a saltwater pool and hot tub that offer stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, as well as food and beverage service, and a relaxing atmosphere. The Resort Pool area continues to progress, as Terranea just recently debuted The Grill at Terranea in May 2017, offering guests a casual new outdoor dining option. The Grill menu caters to a variety of palates, with classic California cuisine served tableside or poolside.

Continued investment and updating remains a top priority for Terranea. Through this commitment, the resort has realized several major enhancements throughout its eight years, including a refreshing of the Lobby Bar & Terrace; new furnishings, garden, and an aquarium at Tide Pool Kids Club; the addition of umbrellas and lounge chairs, along with lawn games, at Beach Cove; as well as the opening of the retail boutique marea (offering high-end clothing, accessories, and one-of-a-kind jewelry) and the Adventure Concierge (providing unique experiences by land and sea, including kayaking, falconry, tidepooling and whale watching excursions). In 2012, the resort debuted bashi, serving a blend of contemporary Asian cuisine against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean.

In addition to the resort’s ongoing enhancements, Terranea’s commitment to growing meaningful partnerships within the community and the luxury lifestyle space remain paramount to the resort’s evolution. Examples include Terranea’s ever-expanding Farm-to-Terranea program, with fresh produce grown on property, a sea salt conservatory, a chicken coop that debuted in September 2017, and more, along with its continued partnership with Lexus to create the Lexus Experience, providing a fleet of cars available for Terranea guests.
