The new way to save big on travel: Share everything with a roommate

Hotels.com pioneers hotel roommate and amenities matching service to give travelers 50 percent savings across their travel budgets.

DALLAS – In a move to give travelers yet another option for big savings on hotel rooms, Hotels.com launched a hotel roommate finder service on its site for 50 percent savings or more on every hotel room. Now travelers can save both money and suitcase space by sharing clothing, amenities and carry-on items with a travel roommate.

“We saw a real opportunity for solo travelers to capture additional savings on top of our already great deals by going dutch on everything from room charges to clothing to travel necessities and more,” said Taylor Cole, travel expert for Hotels.com.

The new service will match hotel roommates by travel location and dates, age and gender preferences as a first step. Thereafter, users can dynamically see other users that are currently searching for the same destination and dates. Each potential hotel roommate match is listed according to vital statistics like travel interests, hygiene habits, personal style and clothing sizes.

Hotel roommate finder users can contact their matches through a convenient messaging service on m the Hotels.com website. The service enables users to interview each other and coordinate items to share and swap while on vacation. For example: one person brings toothpaste, the other a toothbrush; one the shorts, and the other, the pants; the dress shoes, or tennis shoes and so forth, all leading to less luggage and fewer airline baggage fees. Once the match is made, all arrangements are solidified in a legally binding contract.

The pair may choose to go halfsies on their local entertainment and enjoy two-for-one discounts on popular attractions and meals – all for pre-purchase on Hotels.com.

The hotel roommate finder service is now live and has thousands of members already registered following its very successful beta test that launched exactly one year ago on April Fools.
