The newly renovated Condado Vanderbilt Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico accepted into ALHI

Historic oceanfront hotel recently reopened upon the completion of a $200m. renovation and restoration.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The legendary Condado Vanderbilt Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico has been accepted as the newest member of Associated Luxury Hotels International (ALHI). One of the most storied hotels in San Juan since its opening in 1919, the magnificent oceanfront hotel reopened in December 2014 upon the completion of an impressive and comprehensive $200 million renovation and restoration. The ALHI Global Sales Organization (GSO) now represents the historic hotel to meeting professionals, association executives, business executives, and incentive specialists interested in conducting meetings and/or incentive programs at the hotel. The announcement was made by ALHI President Jim Schultenover.

Restored to its original grandeur, the sophisticated Condado Vanderbilt Hotel features beautiful Spanish Revival architecture, a breathtaking setting overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, splendidly opulent interiors, 319 guest rooms and suites, 25,000 square feet of exquisitely remodeled function space, and 5,000 square feet of terrace space with uninterrupted views of the Atlantic. The $200 million renovation included the addition of two adjoining 11-story Suite Towers; an infinity-edge pool that overlooks the ocean; three additional pools; and the 10,000-square-foot The Spa at Condado Vanderbilt, which features 8 treatment rooms, a steam room and a hammam (Turkish bath). The luxurious and cherished landmark hotel also offers a picturesque beach with cabanas, a 24-hour fitness center with inspiring ocean views, complimentary Wi-Fi, butler service, and concierge service. Food & beverage options include the renowned 1919 Restaurant (widely considered one of Puerto Rico’s finest), Ola Ocean Front Bistro, and the Veranda Lounge.

Area recreational options for groups include visiting the historic Spanish fortresses, castles, and magnificent Colonial buildings of Old San Juan; hiking tours to El Yunque Rainforest; visiting Rio Camuy Cave Park; upscale shopping on Ashford Avenue; Catamaran tours to Ikakos Island; deep sea fishing, diving, and snorkeling; tours of the Bacardi Rum Distillery; experiencing the three unique Bioluminescent Bays; seeing the magnificent works of art and majestic gardens at Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico; and visiting Toro Verde Nature Adventure Park. The hotel is just 10 minutes from Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, the central air access hub of the Caribbean. Cities like Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Washington, D.C., and more, offer daily non-stop service on many airlines.

Originally owned and built by Frederick William Vanderbilt (of the famous Vanderbilt family), Condado Vanderbilt Hotel was originally designed in 1919 by architecture firm Warren and Wetmore, whose impressive work also includes Grand Central Station and New York’s Biltmore. Designed as an exclusive tropical retreat in the heart of the Caribbean, the iconic hotel played host to such luminaries as Errol Flynn, Bob Hope, Charles Lindbergh, and President Franklin & Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt.

In addition to its Membership within ALHI’s worldwide portfolio, Condado Vanderbilt Hotel becomes the newest option in ALHI’s “Bahamas, Bermuda & Caribbean Collection” specialty segment, along with its “Beach & Island Collection” and “Historic Collection” specialty segments.

Condado Vanderbilt Hotel becomes ALHI’s first Member hotel in San Juan, and second Member resort in Puerto Rico, joining the exceptional all-suite Gran Melia Golf Resort Puerto Rico, nestled on Puerto Rico’s northeastern coast in Coco Beach in Rio Grande.

“Condado Vanderbilt Hotel has been impressively restored to its grandeur, but it is even better than ever,” said Schultenover. “It is an outstanding new option for groups for both meetings and incentive programs, with a truly beautiful setting, magnificent facilities, new guest rooms and suites, and fantastic recreational options. Add in the convenient air access from so many U.S. cities, and that attendees do not need to worry about a passport, and it is an exceptional choice for groups.”
