Uptown’s only hotel highlights Minnesota’s rich music and art scene through a fun and spirited guest experience.
MINNEAPOLIS – The dynamic Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis welcomed its first hotel in decades this week, Marriott International's playful Moxy Minneapolis Uptown. Owned by Minneapolis-based Graves Hospitality, the six-story, 125-bedroom hotel, situated on the corner of Lake Street and Emerson Avenue, fully embraces modern fun-hunting travelers with its spirit, style and affordable price point.
"At Moxy, we believe in the transformative power of play, and we're excited to bring this vibrant spirit to Minneapolis Uptown as we invite our guests to come play with us," said Vicki Poulos, Senior Global Brand Director, Moxy Hotels. "Designed for both the young and the young at heart, Moxy doesn't take life too seriously, and is a perfect spot for both visitors to the city and locals to hang out, meet new friends and have some fun."
Moxy offers a new way of traveling which is smaller in concentration, yet not a reduction in experience. The brand caters to today's free-spirited traveler who is looking for a hotel with friendly service and premium comforts in an environment that allows them to connect with relevant and authentic local experiences. Moxy's creative brand identity aims to engage business and leisure travelers with a warm, thoughtful and playful guest experience.
Designed locally by Collage Architects and Yellow Dog Studios, the public and private areas follow Moxy's design-forward sensibility with tech-enabled bedrooms and vibrant lobby, lounge and bar spaces. Exceptionally efficient guest rooms provide everything travelers need and nothing they don't, including a peg wall for hanging clothes and jackets instead of a closet for ultimate flexibility. These thoughtful modifications make room for things that matter more, like the 42" TV and a sumptuous bed with fine linens and exceptional pillows.
In the lobby, guests will discover industrial-chic communal spaces filled with a warm and engaging mix of modern and vintage-inspired furniture and light fixtures. The Moxy experience begins as guests check-in at the bar, instead of a traditional front desk. Guests will be given their room key and a complimentary 'Got Moxy' cocktail using local Tattersall Distilling spirits, or a mocktail version if they prefer. From there, Moxy Minneapolis Uptown's lobby offers all the comforts of a living room but with the exciting action of a backstage pass. Guests can relax in the lounge areas, break open a laptop at any of the work spaces and take their pick of craft beers and specialty cocktails in the dynamic bar. Fun-hunters can head into the bar lounge for a game of shuffleboard or foosball before stopping in the Insta-worthy Vinyl Listening Lounge and Record Room where hundreds of records and three hi-fi turntables ensure the opportunity to get lost down a rabbit hole of music. Guests who fall in love with a record after listening can simply head back to the bar to purchase that record for their personal collection.
Throughout the hotel, guests can enjoy the influence of the Twin Cities rich and vibrant culture. Artwork from the nonprofit neighborhood gallery Soo Visual Arts Center is displayed throughout the public spaces highlighting evocative imagery created by uber-talented artists. Music photos by First Avenue Photographer, Daniel Corrigan can be seen in the Green Room Suite, and a personal amp and Fender guitar is mounted in every guest room, ready to be played or autographed by guests as a playful nod to Minneapolis' rich musical history.
Guests looking to live like a rockstar can stay in the 6th floor two-bedroom suite with an attached Green Room, perfect for entertaining up to 40 guests. The Green Room is decked out with expansive, comfy modular sofas, a private bar and floor-to-ceiling windows with a beautiful view overlooking bustling Uptown Minneapolis and the Downtown skyline. The suite features soaring ceilings, a private glass-bottom balcony and a round Japanese soaking tub, perfect for a relaxing morning after a long night out in Uptown.
Those seeking a bite can head to the Moxy bar for a wide selection of artisan flatbreads called 'Moxy Flats,' or pick up a fresh wrap or sandwich from the 24/7 grab-and-go cooler. Enviably situated in the heart of Uptown, guests of the hotel can meander down Lake Street to either Lyndale or Hennepin for the best of the vibrant neighborhood and indie dining. During summer months, Minneapolis' thriving food truck scene is just steps from away from Moxy Minneapolis Uptown Hotel while a lobby garage door opens up to 3,000 miles of the best bike paths, restaurants and block parties in the Northern Hemisphere.
The 22nd Moxy Hotel to open globally and the fifth Moxy Hotel in the United States, Moxy Minneapolis Uptown is the second-ever Moxy built from the ground up in the states. In 2018 Moxy Hotels is expected to open in Chicago, Seattle, Washington DC, Memphis, Atlanta, Munich, etc.
