The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai benchmarks luxury experiences

A distinctive landmark located in the iconic Shanghai Centre, the award-winning Portman Ritz-Carlton unveils brand new facilities upon the completion of an extensive US$40 million transformation.  With 610 rooms and suites offering the ultimate address for business and leisure travelers, the hotel is the largest in The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C. portfolio.

As the limousine pulls up in the porte cochere, a dramatic entrance flanked by feng shui inspired waterfalls paves the way for a successful stay. New guest rooms bearing a contemporary decor enriched by Asian influences are a cornerstone of luxury and comfort. Throughout the room, onyx panels, modern Chinese artwork and a Chinese medicine chest inspired cabinet evoke a sense of place. With the sleek 37-inch LCD television featuring more than 40 channels, guests are spoilt for choice as they relax with a wide variety of domestic and international programmes. A modern day luxury that offers the definitive sleep experience, the signature Ritz-Carlton Sealy bed with 400-thread count bed linen, plush down feather pillows and throw pillows invites a peaceful night’s rest.

In the executive suite, Chinese ornamentation in the living room complement warm color tones to create an air of residential living. In the bedroom, muted colors with a silver undertone combine with soft padded walls to provide a tranquil retreat. Besides double vanities that accommodate a more spacious display of personal toiletry items, a stone bath tub set on a precious jade mosaic feature takes center stage in the master bathroom.

Enriched by touches of old Shanghai in the overall design, the 170-square-meter hospitality suite comprises two luxuriously appointed bedrooms and a living room. Meeting planners looking for greater flexibility in venue options will also find the suite well suited for exclusive events up to 30 guests.

Located on the topmost floor of the hotel, the one- and two-bedroom penthouse suites are the height of luxury and spaciousness. Taking pride of place in the living room is a fireplace, while the master bathroom has been enlarged to feature a walk-in closet, stand-alone shower, double vanities and an oversized bath tub overlooking the city.

At 500 square meters, The Ritz-Carlton Suite is the largest presidential suite in the city, making it the accommodation of choice to host royalty, heads of state, celebrities, heads of multi-national corporations and their accompanying entourage. Arriving from a Chinese courtyard inspired foyer, the doors to the four-bedroom suite open to unveil stunning views of the city skyline and a sophisticated decor adorned with Chinese antiques and artifacts. Road warriors and spa junkies in need of pampering can relax in the privacy of the spa-cum exercise room equipped with massage table and a treadmill. Additionally, a sauna and steam room in the oversized bathroom relaxes weary muscles. With floor-to-ceiling windows, the “bathroom with a view” can be enjoyed from a sculptural bathtub set on a raised platform.

For guests desiring a greater level of exclusivity in a home-within-a-home ambience, The Ritz-Carlton Club Level offers exclusive access to the new Club Lounge. Throughout the lounge, Chinese lattice screens elegantly outline the various spaces for the reception, relaxation, dining, meetings and complimentary Internet access. Besides a daily array of six food and beverage presentations, guests can also savor the chef’s recommendations at the Gaggenau live cooking station, an eminent brand of cooking technology.

In addition to the award-winning Italian, Chinese and Japanese restaurants and lobby lounge, guests will be feted to a multi-cultural dining experience in Tables. For happy hours’ relaxation or a post-dinner libation, a live jazz band plays in the hotel. With increased meeting space totaling more than 5,636 square meters, a range of meeting venues  can be tailored to match the meeting planner’s needs. Club Level guests can also access The Ritz-Carlton Club Level boardroom for executive meetings in an elite setting for 16 participants.

The 610-room Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai is a landmark located in Shanghai Centre, a retail, dining and entertainment complex on the famous Nanjing Road. Situated right in the heart of the commercial, shopping and entertainment district of the city, services and facilities include six restaurants and lounges serving Chinese, Italian, Japanese and Western favorites. An extensive health club with swimming pool, gym, squash and racquetball courts is featured alongside a 24-hour business center.
