PACUARE, COSTA RICA – Rios Lodge, a remote sustainable ecolodge, formerly called Rios Tropicales Lodge, has reopened under new ownership and management. One of the new owners is Roberto Gallo, son of the deceased Rafael (Rafa) Gallo, co-founder of Rios Tropicales and a global leader in conservation strategies and engagements. The adventure company was established in 1985 and closed in 2021 during the pandemic and with the death of Rafa.

In early 2022, Roberto Gallo and his partners, Arturo Oropeza, Justin Rae, and Sam Drevo, along with other highly experienced paddlers, conservationists, and adventure tourism leaders, purchased the operation along with 100 hectares of rainforest and Pacuare River frontage and the former Rios Tropicales digital assets, under the name Rios Lodge, LLC.

The new stewards gave the ecolodge a slightly different name, Rios Lodge, in tribute to Roberto’s father’s legacy while creating space for a fresh, new brand to be born. Initial investment plans expanding the lodge’s facilities, hydropower system, activities programming, and conservation projects in the famous Pacuare River ecosystem with half a million dollars committed so far. Rios Lodge upgrades include a state-of-the art ecohostel opening in June and a thrilling 8 ziplines course with incredible new zips flying up and across the Pacuare River.

Rios Lodge’s adventure programming has something to offer to guests of all ages, fitness and interest levels. Guests can choose between horseback riding, swimming in spectacular waterfalls, ziplining rafting or hiking into and out of this remote ecolodge, as there is no direct automobile access. Horseback riding, swimming in spectacular waterfalls and guided hikes led by local guides and conservationists bring new focus and opens up the lodge to an expanded group market of customer ages, including student groups with its new ecohostel lodging facility.

Rios Lodge is ideal for active travelers who are looking for authentic adventure experiences that make a positive impact onquar responsible tourism and conservation. Guests are supporting reforestation and biodiversity programs as a result of their stay. Guests can participate directly in tree-planting carbon sequestration projects in the large, extended Gallo-Jiménez Family Private Rainforest Reserve, started 3 decades ago by Rafael Gallo.
