Design hotels<.> member, The Water Club, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has received the annual Hippest Hotel Design Award for 2002, from the influential North-American hotel trade magazine Lodging Hospitality.

The hard-fought contest celebrated its tenth anniversary this year, with over 90 hotels competing in an event that enjoys strong trade recognition.

Opened in November 2001, The Water Club has quickly developed into a favourite stop-over destination for design hotels’ cosmopolitan guests. It’s great to see The Water Club’s innovative approach being rewarded by the hotel industry itself, says Robert Deiner, Senior Vice President and COO of Design Hotels Inc. The hotel’s mixture of slick, contemporary architecture and first-class service make it a good example of what design hotels is about. We’re delighted to have The Water Club in our portfolio.

With 84 bright, white rooms, and public spaces bathed in blue neon light, The Water Club is a far cry from San Juan’s traditional hotel scene. Floor-to-ceiling glazing in most bedrooms not only fills them with daylight, but affords guests spectacular views of the adjacent Caribbean beach. Quirky extras, such as classic jelly bean machines, water-pistols filled with tequila and desires boards, where clients can leave requests for anything from more towels to the bartender’s phone number, add to The Water Club’s cool and creative atmosphere.
