Tobago's new boutique hotel – Daring to be different

The hotel was taken over by hotelier Carolyn Lloyd in May this year and has undergone a complete transformation to create a 40-bedroom, intimate and stylish hotel new amenities.

TOBAGO, W.I. – Nestled in a leafy avenue in Bon Accord, just three minutes from the A.N.R. Robinson airport, ‘Chic‘ the boutique hotel and conference centre quietly opened its doors this week.

The hotel was taken over by hotelier Carolyn Lloyd in May this year and has undergone a complete transformation to create a 40-bedroom, intimate and stylish hotel new amenities.

The concept was born out of a collaboration between Carolyn Lloyd and Wanda Jones of Caribbean Renovations, both being inspired to create a hotel for Tobago that was different. No typical Caribbean colour schemes, wicker furnishings or standard hotel artwork at Chic.

“We felt that Tobago deserved something different and so we set about creating a hotel with a new style for the island” said Carolyn.

From the moment you enter Chic, you know you are somewhere a bit different, the Lobby with its high vaulted ceiling, navy blue walls and cream leather sofas, also has a nice little bar to sit and enjoy great cocktails.

Walk through the landscaped courtyard with a wonderful swimming pool and Flip Flops Pool Bar, to the guest rooms and you feel totally relaxed. The guest rooms have been renovated in three different colour schemes, a vibrant red, a fresh green and a soothing purple, each colour scheme incorporated in the contemporary funky lamps. Each of the 40 rooms including the 7 Junior Suites have a huge individual piece of artwork over the bed, a real eye catcher when you first enter the room.

There is a cute little blackboard in each room with a welcome message for each guest, a nice touch. Another quirky feature are the door knobs on the wardrobe and in the bathroom are all hand painted and all different, no two match.

However, Chic is not just about hotel rooms, with an air-conditioned elegant new restaurant and pub called Tempo, guests can enjoy dining and drinking in style. Chic even has a Spa where guests can be pampered.

With Soca, Rapso and Kaiso meeting rooms all seating up to 30 in each, a business centre and an impressive Calypso Ballroom for up to 250, Chic has been well and truly designed for both business and pleasure.

This new hotel is one to visit when in Tobago and with rooms starting at US$125 including breakfast, offers great value.
