Travelstart and News24 join forces to boost online travel bookings

Travelstart and News24 have formed a strategic partnership which makes the Online Travel Agency’s booking technology available directly on the Traveller24 website.

Readers of Traveller24, a subdivision of the News24 website, can now search for flights, compare ticket prices from all airlines in real time and book and pay for flights without leaving the 24 domain. This is the result of a new partnership formed between 24.com – South Africa’s largest digital publisher owned by Naspers, and Travelstart – the most established online travel brand in SA.

Russell Jarvis, Head of Communications for Travelstart South Africa, sees the partnership as a natural progression for the two companies, “We’re super excited to power Traveller24’s new flight search. Their topical and regularly updated travel content reaches a wide and informed audience of travel shoppers and decision makers. With our technology embedded in Traveller24 readers’ research and inspiration-seeking paths we are effectively putting the tools they need to arrange a trip to any one of the destinations they’re researching right in front of them.”

For Travelstart, this partnership serves to boost their Affiliate Program in South Africa said the OTA’s Lazanne Truter, “More than 700 third-party websites in South Africa alone are already leveraging our technology to sell travel and pass savings on to their customers. We aim to meet our customers online because that is where our business is and Traveller24 lends itself to this goal – now their readers can search and book alongside the inspirational stories they find on Traveller24’s website.”

Traveller24 readers will benefit from all of Travelstart’s online booking features such as the OTA’s direct integration with every low cost carrier including Mango Airlines, FlySafair and Skywise for faster results, the ability to mix and match flights on domestic routes for the cheapest possible ticket, and the convenient 3-step booking process.

Traveller24 Editor Selene Brophy commented, “We’re excited to be working with Travelstart. At Traveller24 we aim to give our readers useful, insider information about local and international destinations on their bucket list. Now we’re able to extend this expert advice to include competitive flight booking options. Travelstart is an online booking industry-leader on the African continent and their flight offering is the most comprehensive and trusted resource, connecting to all airlines and destinations.”

According to the IAB South Africa, who conducted independent research into South Africans’ holiday and travel planning behaviour earlier this year, 64% of holidaymakers browse holiday destinations or book online. 80% of the individuals in this segment said they go online to get holiday inspiration and prefer consuming content on holiday destinations on the Internet. 73% of people browsing holiday content were likely to recommend a travel site to family or friends.

The same research found that South African Internet users are twice as likely to travel by air inside South Africa, and they also travel more frequently and utilise a broad range of airlines. While 12% of Internet users had travelled by air outside South Africa, the IAB Poll showed that 60% of people who actively browsed holidays online were considering an overseas holiday. This indicates a clear synergy between digital resources and travel throughout the decision making process from inspiration, through to advice, comparison and booking.

Travelstart’s booking technology is available to third-party websites through its Affiliate Program. Partners can choose from API integrations, a white-label, banners or links. Travelstart’s Affiliate network currently comprises 700 third-party websites in South Africa alone.
