With the opening of five new hotels, Minneapolis surpasses 8,000 rooms in downtown

The city’s hotel boom is part of The Minneapolis Big Build, which is a $2 billion collection of major projects that are transforming Minneapolis, adding new facilities, new green space, and new public amenities that will enhance Minneapolis for everyone who lives, works, visits, and plays here.

MINNEAPOLIS – Downtown Minneapolis now has more than 8,000 hotel rooms to welcome visitors to town, surpassing the new milestone thanks to the opening this fall of five new hotels. AC Hotel Minneapolis Downtown, Embassy Suites Minneapolis Downtown, Radisson RED Minneapolis, Hewing Hotel, and Hampton Inn and Suites Minneapolis University Area all welcomed their first visitors this fall.

These five new properties include 940 new rooms, bringing the total number of rooms within the downtown area to 8,407 in 33 hotels (this figure includes only hotels of more than 50 rooms).

The city’s hotel boom is part of The Minneapolis Big Build, which is a $2 billion collection of major projects that are transforming Minneapolis, adding new facilities, new green space, and new public amenities that will enhance Minneapolis for everyone who lives, works, visits, and plays here. With the redesign of our signature street, Nicollet, the opening of the new U.S. Bank Stadium and Commons Park, and a major renovation to Target Center, among many other projects, the heart of downtown will be bolder, greener and more inviting than ever.

New hotels in fall 2016
The AC Hotel Minneapolis Downtown, located in the Hennepin Theatre District, provides a “sophisticated retreat that’s rich in style and substance.” The property is a new type of lifestyle hotel targeting creative and innovative visitors in Minneapolis. Its contemporary rooms offer smart TVs, mini-fridges, complimentary high-speed Internet, and built-in work desks –complete with an elegant European charm. The AC Kitchen and Lounge flaunts delicious European breakfasts with tapas and drinks in the evenings. With 1,500 square feet of meeting space and a fitness center, the AC Hotel Minneapolis Downtown meets the needs of the busy traveler and lounging visitor. Located within walking distance of Target Center and Nicollet Mall, the hotel opened its doors in October, and is the first AC Hotels by Marriott property in Minnesota.

The Embassy Suites Minneapolis Downtown boasts a relaxed and upscale experience 290 suites. Directly linked to the Minneapolis skyway system, guests enjoy quick access to restaurants, shops, and nightlife in the city. Additionally, the hotel is located just a block from one of the city’s METRO train stations, making transportation an easy feat. The space includes free breakfast, a convenience store and a fitness center and heated indoor pool. Along with accommodating event spaces, Embassy Suites meets other business needs, such as audio/visual equipment rental, a business center, meeting rooms, and video conferencing. Its meeting and events spaces include 10 separate rooms, totaling more than 12,600 sq. ft. of space, with the largest room able to welcome 350 people.

The Hewing Hotel is located in the City’s booming North Loop neighborhood. The hotel, inspired by the city’s logging history and Minnesota’s Nordic heritage, embodies a North woods cabin stay. Each of the 124 rooms and 13 suites is uniquely designed, with Scandinavian aesthetics and cabin culture. The Hewing proudly houses Tullibee, a restaurant inspired by Minnesota’s natural history, which features a Nordic influenced menu with more Scandinavian roots. It also houses meeting and event spaces. The Hewing Hotel celebrated its grand opening in mid-November.

The Radisson RED Minneapolis is located in the East Town neighborhood of Minneapolis near the bold new U.S. Bank Stadium. With 164 contemporarily designed studios, the Radisson is the ideal stay for “millennial mindset travelers.” The hotel experience features check-in via mobile device and a virtual concierge. A 1,000-square-foot event space also functions as a game studio, while free-flowing social spaces throughout the hotel inspire productivity and progression. The OUIBar + KTCHN celebrates Minneapolis’ craft food and drink scene in a versatile new dining area. The modern space also features a fitness center, on-site parking, free high speed Wi-Fi and graphic visuals by local artists.

The Hampton Inn and Suites Minneapolis University Area is adjacent to the University of Minnesota. Situated between the campus and nearby Prospect Park neighborhood, guests only walk a few paces to the nearby METRO station for easy transportation around the city. With 117 guest rooms and suites, Hampton Inn and Suites provides each room with a microwave, mini-fridge, HDTV, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Spacious suites include a separate living area, a wet bar, and additional sofa bed. The experience includes a heated indoor pool and whirlpool, a fitness center, 750 sq. ft. of meeting space, and a business center that hosts computer access and printing and copying capabilities.
