Integrated security system in Port of Souda is fully operational

The basic feature of system’s design and development is the operation of Security Control Center inside the port area which handles all security information transmitted in real time, thus ensuring undisrupted and secure access of ships, vehicles and port’s users that enter the port facilities.

Integrated security system installed by ICTS Hellas in the Port of Souda has been in full operation. The project, estimated at 1,4 mil. euros is one of the major port security projects in Greece and was completed within the given deadline, only in 4 months after the agreement had been signed. Upon its completion Souda is now included among the pioneering ports which fully comply with the provisions of ISPS Code, Schengen Agreement as well as those of European and national regulations.

The basic feature of system’s design and development is the operation of Security Control Center inside the port area which handles all security information transmitted in real time, thus ensuring undisrupted and secure access of ships, vehicles and port’s users that enter the port facilities. The nexus of procedures, mechanisms and hi-tech equipment also contributes to the fastest and instant activation of Port’s crisis management procedures in case of emergency. Thanks to the total upgrade of the security provided, Port of Souda emerges as one of the most attractive cruise destinations, given the importance that cruise companies attain to the alignment of ports with international security regulations, while three new cruise lines have already included the Port of Souda in next year’s destinations.

“We are more than satisfied by the fact that, under capital controls, we made two key achievements, firstly the implementation of the most up-to-date integrated security project in Greece and, secondly, its prompt delivery in record time. From now on the Port of Souda is among the safest ports in the Mediterranean and one of the few with security equipment of this level, which is of utmost importance after the recent resurgence of terrorist threat in Europe. I would like to thank Region of Crete and Chania Port Fund for our cooperation but also our project partners for their decisive contribution and I hope that the upgraded port will become a hub of cruise and tourism growth in entire Chania Precinct”, said Mr Panagiotis Kambouroglou, CEO, ICTS Hellas.
