Ecuador announces transformative tourism projects for 2025, including new hotels and cruise offerings, reinforcing its status as a growing tourist destination with increasing investments.
QUITO, ECUADOR – Ecuador has announced a series of transformative tourism projects set to launch in 2025. With a consistent increase in revenue each year, local and international hospitality brands are investing in the Ecuadorian tourism sector. Committed to enhancing travel experiences, the country will welcome new hotels and cruise offerings, adding to its existing portfolio of 4,957 hotels and 15 cruises currently operating in Ecuador.
According to the Ministry of Tourism of Ecuador, visitors surpassed 589,000 in the first six months, with an anticipated annual growth rate of 2.88% until 2029, according to Statista. Ecuador is reinforcing its status as a top tourist destination, drawing significant investment in the sector.
“By investing in Ecuador’s tourism sector, these brands are not just supporting our economy but contributing to the preservation of our natural heritage and offering visitors more ways to experience our beautiful country. These tourism projects will create local opportunities in Quito, the Galapagos, and Manabi, while establishing a benchmark for distinguished service.” Said Santiago Granda, Undersecretary of Promotion for the Ministry of Tourism of Ecuador.
Hotel Sector Growth
In 2025, Ecuador’s hospitality offering will expand with the introduction of two new hotels by Marriott International and the renowned Ecuadorian hospitality brand Oro Verde. While attracting international investments, Ecuador remains dedicated to preserving its natural wonders, enriching local communities, and providing unique experiences.
Located within Quito’s Airport, Ecuador will welcome the debut of Courtyard Hotel by Marriott Quito, an ideal property for business travelers. Quito, the capital of Ecuador, is a stunning city in the Andes surrounded by mountains, known for its rich cultural heritage and breathtaking beauty. It was also the first city to be designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A project by SIXSTAR Hotels and Marriott International, the new hotel, expected to open in summer 2025, will have 84 rooms and provide amenities such as a gym, business center, meeting room, and a grab-and-go market for the busiest business travelers.
With hotels throughout the country, Ecuadorian hospitality group Oro Verde will open its newest property, Hotel Oro Verde Portoviejo, in the western province of Manabí, less than an hour’s flight from Quito. Portoviejo, the capital of Manabí, is renowned for its rich culinary heritage, making it a prime destination for food lovers. Designed by CORREA + FATEHI – ODD Architects, the new hotel, expected to open in spring 2025, will include 71 rooms, a panoramic rooftop pool, a contemporary gastrobar, spacious event areas, and a world-class restaurant.
Cruise to the Galapagos
The luxury cruise market is expanding in the Galapagos with a new upscale Ecuadorian sea excursion. The Hermes Catamaran, anticipated to debut in 2025, boasts 12 generously sized convertible suites located on the main and upper decks of the vessel. These suites, consisting of 10 double and 2 single accommodations, feature private bathrooms, air conditioning, walk-in closets, mini bars, floor-to-ceiling windows, private balconies, and jacuzzis. This catamaran will navigate through all the Galapagos islands including Santa Cruz, Española, and Bartolomé; depending on the package and itinerary selected. Hermes will allow guests to experience the luxurious amenities of a larger cruise while enjoying the intimacy of a smaller vessel. The new offering is ideal for travelers seeking to explore the landscapes and biodiversity of the Galapagos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Ecuador’s new tourism initiatives for 2025 signal a promising future for the country’s hospitality and travel sectors. With a strategic mix of high-end hotel developments and innovative cruise offerings, Ecuador will further solidify its reputation as a premier destination for both business and leisure travelers.
