HSMAI announces the passing of President and CEO Bob Gilbert, who recently retired due to health issues after 30 years of impactful leadership.
McLEAN, VA – It is with profound sadness that the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) Americas, HSMAI Foundation and HSMAI Global, announce that President and CEO, Bob Gilbert passed away on September 19, 2024). In July 2024, the organization announced that Gilbert had accelerated his retirement plan as a result of a serious health issue following 30 years of executive leadership for HSMAI.
In his final HSMAI Perspective, Bob Gilbert shared, “I am filled with gratitude for the incredible journey and the profound relationships I have built with so many of you. I am immensely proud of the work we have accomplished together in expanding the association’s reach and impact across the globe, and the fun we have had along the way. It has truly been a privilege to serve our resilient industry.”
A beloved friend and admired mentor to many in the hospitality industry, Mr. Gilbert will be missed by the industry at large, and the association will benefit from his leadership for many years to come.
To celebrate Bob’s career is to acknowledge his leadership and impact on the hospitality industry. Bob’s passion and commitment have been instrumental in guiding the HSMAI Foundation’s mission to attract, develop, and engage the brightest talents. In recognition of Bob’s legacy, all donations made to the HSMAI Foundation Century Campaign through December 31, 2024, will be considered in his honor. Contributions will support the Foundation’s continued efforts in education, diversity, and leadership development, embodying Bob’s vision for a stronger hospitality community.
The HSMAI family’s thoughts are with Bob’s cherished family today and always. HSMAI will share information regarding arrangements when they are complete.
