137-yr-old hospitality property seeking buyer

Heywood Hall gifted the land and funds needed to complete gothic buildings which can still be seen across Denstone to this day.

A buyer is being sought for a 137-year-old Victorian property that has recently diversified into the hospitality sector.

Heywood Hall in Denstone, Staffordshire was initially built in 1885 as a four-bedroom home for the provost of Denstone College by George Percival Heywood, who was part of a wealthy banking family from Manchester that instigated the village’s development following their arrival in 1840 with the construction of Denstone College, a church and a school.

Heywood also gifted the land and funds needed to complete gothic buildings which can still be seen across Denstone to this day.

Having been extended in more recent years, the £1.25 million property has a mixture of six one-bed and two-bed self-catering apartments to offer accommodation to tourists and business professionals visiting the village, which is less than two miles away from popular tourist attraction Alton Towers, around six miles from Uttoxeter Racecourse, and around one mile from JCB’s world headquarters.

Emily McPheat, senior negotiator at Fisher German, is assisting with the sale of the property, which sits on more than half an acre of land. She said: “Heywood Hall is steeped in history and presents a unique opportunity for a hospitality entrepreneur to take over the running of a successful holiday letting property, or to find a project to potentially transform into a retreat, apartments or private nursing home.

“Since venturing into the hospitality industry, the property is often fully booked and this is driven by its popular location and proximity to Alton Towers and Uttoxeter Racecourse.

“This opportunity also comes at a time when families are continuing to favour staycations over trips abroad even after the pandemic.”
