362,245 passengers at Katowice Airport in May 2022

From January to the end of May 2022, 1,080 041 passengers – 885,250 more (+454.5%) than in 2021 – were served at Katowice Airport.

The Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL SA) – the company managing Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport in Pyrzowice – has summarized passenger traffic for the fifth month of 2022.

In May 2022, 362,245 passengers – 276,677 more (+323.3%) in comparison with the same time period in 2021 – were handled at Katowice Airport. 213 833 travellers – 197 626 more (+1,219.4%) than last year – were served on routes handled by Wizz Air, Ryanair, LOT Polish Airlines and Lufthansa. Passengers most often travelled from Katowice Airport to Dortmund (33,716 passengers), London-Luton (18 136), London-Stansted (12,733), Milan-Bergamo (11,505) and Cologne-Bonn (11,153). 147,134 travellers were handled on charter flights, i.e. 78,458 more (+114.2%) than in May 2021. The following routes were the most popular: Antalya (37,004 passengers), Marsa Alam (13,710), Hurghada (12 252), Heraklion (7,617), Bodrum (7,595). During the fifth month of 2022, aircraft took off and landed 3,650 times at Katowice Airport, that’s 2 045 operations more (+127.4%) than last year. In May 2022, passenger traffic constituted 84% of the record fifth month of 2019, when 429 thousand travellers were handled at Katowice Airport.

From January to the end of May 2022, 1,080 041 passengers – 885,250 more (+454.5%) than in 2021 – were served at Katowice Airport. The one-millionth passenger in 2022 was handled on 26 May (Thursday); in comparison, the one-millionth passenger in 2021 was served on 10 August, on 21 August in 2020, and on 29 April in the pre-pandemic 2019. From January to the end of May 2022, 724 514 passengers were handled on regular flights, that’s 678 827 more (+1 485.8%) than during the first five months of 2021. 351 285 passengers were served on charter flights, i.e. 204 176 more (+138.8%) than last year. From January to the end of May 2022, aircraft performed 13 146 air operations – 7 654 more (+139.8%) than in 2021.

“Passenger traffic keeps improving. We have handled the first million passengers in 2022. We estimate that two million passengers will be served by the end of July; we aim to conclude the year with approximately 4.3 million passengers,” said Artur Tomasik, President of the Board of GTL SA, the Company managing Katowice Airport.
