Here are 7 must-have apps for travel, and they are all free.

If you travel for work or for pleasure, there are certain apps that you really need to take with you, whether you have an Android device or an iOS one. Here are 7 must-have apps for travel, and they are all free:

1. Google Translate
If you travel overseas, you may find yourself in a situation where you do not understand the local language. Fortunately, there is Google Translate, which lets you input text or speech and translates it for you. It can even translate a photo or handwritten text. It can speak the translated word, too.

Tip: if you know you will be in a specific country ahead of time, download that country's language, so you do not have to worry about having an Internet connection when you get there.

2. XE Currency
You not only need to translate words when you are traveling overseas, you will also likely need to convert currencies, too. This is why XE Currency is so useful. It will convert between any two currencies in the world. You can even use the app to decide where to vacation, as it can help show you places to travel where the dollar is strong.

3. WiFi Map
When traveling, it is not uncommon to need a WiFi connection, especially if you find yourself outside your cell coverage area. This is why you need WiFi Map, which will not only show you public hotspots nearby, it will also provide you the passwords for these hotspots. Their database has in excess of 100,000,000 hotspots around the world.

With Tripit, not only can you track what you are supposed to be doing and where you are supposed to be, but you do not even have to enter this information directly into the app. The app can import your itineraries from confirmation emails. Best of all, you do not even have to be online to use it.

5. Triposo
Ever wish you could have your own personal travel guide while out of town? Now you can with Triposo. Triposo lets you discover hotels, restaurants and things to do in more than 50,000 locations worldwide. It also includes maps and directions so that you can find all these places. It happens to just about everybody at one time or another when traveling. You find yourself in an unfamiliar place and in need of a restroom, but you do not know where to find one. Fortunately, Charmin — the venerable toilet paper company — has an app called Sit or Squat, which will help you find a bathroom no matter where you are. It has a database of in excess of 100,000 facilities, and it even rates them.
